Indiana football is ranked No. 2 in the first release of the 2025 College Football Playoff rankings.
The rankings determined by the CFP Committee were announced live on ESPN Tuesday evening.
Following a first round bye, No. 2 IU would face the winner of No. 7 BYU and No. 10 Notre Dame based on the first release of the bracket.
As long as they remain a top-4 seed when the final CFP rankings are released in December, the Hoosiers will get a first round bye.
In 2025 the 12-team bracket will now be seeded directly based on the final ranking of the CFP Selection Committee, with the four highest-ranked teams receiving a first-round bye. If one or more of the five highest-ranked conference champions are ranked outside the top 12, that team or teams would move up to the 12th seed, 11th seed, etc., based on the number of conference champions outside the top 12.
The Big Ten saw seven schools ranked and three programs in the top-10 of the initial CFP rankings: Ohio State (No. 1), Indiana (No. 2), Oregon (No. 9), USC (No. 19), Iowa (No. 20), Michigan (No. 21) and Washington (No. 23).
The Committee will continue to release a new bracket and rankings each week until the final CFP is confirmed on Dec. 7.
