Indiana’s injury report for today’s game against Kennesaw State contains no major surprises, but certainly some concerns at safety and punter.
As reported earlier this week, veteran safety Bryson Bonds is out for the season. His absence will be felt on special teams and on the depth chart.
For a second straight game, freshman safety Byron Baldwin is listed as out as well. Coach Curt Cignetti described his situation as “day-to-day” earlier this week, but he’s missing some valuable early season reps.
The status of Baldwin will come into even greater focus next week if starting free safety Louis Moore is unavailable. The next phase of his eligibility case against the NCAA occurs next week.
Beyond Moore and his fellow starters Amare Ferrell and Devan Boykin, the Hoosiers don’t have much depth at the safety/rover spots. Redshirt freshman Jah Jah Boyd is the only other non-true freshman available at the position.
Finally, starting punter Mitch McCarthy is listed as out for the Hoosiers this week. McCarthy suffered an undisclosed injury during last week’s game against Old Dominion. Freshman Quinn Warren is expected to fulfill the punting duties. McCarthy is also the holder on field goals and extra points, so someone else will need to step into that role as well.
Indiana and Kennesaw State kick at Noon ET at Memorial Stadium (FS1).
