TALE OF THE TAPE
THE COMPLETE BIG TEN WEEK TWO SLATE
KENNESAW STATE NOTES AND NUMBERS
• In Kennesaw State’s first game in the new era of first-year head coach Jerry Mack, the Owls battled to the final moment, falling 10-9 to ACC foe Wake Forest in Week 1.
• A veteran coach, Mack arrives at Kennesaw State after having coached at a myriad of places, including Tennessee (2021-23), Rice (2017-20), NC Central (2014-17) and most recently the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024.
• Kennesaw State will debut new schematics on both sides of the ball, installing an tempo spread attack on the offensive side and a 4-2-5 base setup on the other side of the ball.
• Kennesaw State is meeting an opponent from the Big Ten for the first time in program history. Its previous Power 4/5 opponents have hailed exclusively from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
• Saturday will also mark KSU’s first matchup against an AP Top 25 opponent.
• Week 1 saw plenty of positives out of the Kennesaw State defense as they recorded the fewest points allowed by a road defense against a Power 4 opponent and the fewest points allowed by a CUSA team against an FBS opponent thus far.
• The Owls recorded four sacks, blocked a field goal and bolstered 11 third-down stoppages.
• Saturday will also mark the return of starting quarterback Dexter Williams II to his alma mater. Williams played at Indiana from 2020-23 and completed his undergraduate degree in Bloomington.
• Williams accounted for 197 yards of offense, passing for 149 yards and adding 44 on the ground. His 149 yards through the air is the most by a KSU quarterback in his first start.
• Despite bringing in nearly 60 newcomers, Kennesaw State returns many familiar faces, including 10 selections to Athlon Sports’ Preseason All-CUSA Selections.
