FINAL: Indiana 71, Michigan State 67

    SECOND HALF

Anthony Leal ices the game. Hoosiers with the upset in East Lansing.

Back and forth to the end. Hoosiers up 67-64 with 13.3 left. MSU with the ball after a timeout.

Indiana with some missed opportunities from the free-throw line. Rice, Galloway, and Mgbako all miss in the last 2:45 of the game. Galloway and Rice both missed on the front end of 1-and-1’s as well.

Indiana possession goes empty and Tre Holloman converts a nice floater. 61-58 IU with 1:21 left.

MSU chips away once again. IU still leads 61-56 with 2:15 left.

    • Indiana has the chance to take this, but they haven’t handled the pressure well so far. A jump ball that happened to go their way, and Galloway couldn’t convert on bonus free throws. The game is not over by any means.

What a half for the Hoosiers. Indiana leads 61-52 with 3:12.

    • IU is on the verge of earning an upset on the road, largely off the back of Malik Reneau’s second half. He is up to 18 points and 11 rebounds and has looked unstoppable on the low block.
    • It looked for a moment that the Spartans figured out Indiana’s zone, but they still haven’t found anything consistent. They’re shooting 35% from the field, and are on the wrong side of a 6-0 IU run.

Indiana keeps a 50-46 lead, but MSU with some momentum with 6:17 to play.

    • Hoosiers have still been impressive on offense, hitting four of their last five. However, Michigan State is also starting to figure out IU’s zone and has started to chip into the lead.
    • Oumar Ballo heads to the bench with four fouls. He leads Indiana’s scoring, still with 14.

The Hoosiers hold a 42-35 lead with 11:34 left to play.

    • IU’s defense continues to give MSU issues, who have struggled to find anything consistent since Indiana went to a zone. They’re shooting 28% to start the half.
    • The Hoosiers have to continue focusing on the glass to hold their momentum. The Spartans are up to nine offensive rebounds, and Ballo is on the bench with three fouls.

IU starts the half well and leads MSU 38-31 with 15:33 left.

    • Indiana’s zone has caused a lot of issues for the Michigan State offense. The Spartans have started the half 1-4, and are coming off a 9-0 run from Indiana to end the first half.
    • Hoosiers looking at opportunities on the inside for their offense. Reneau with four and Ballo with two to kick off the half. Ballo leads all scorers with 14.

HALFTIME: Indiana 32, Michigan State 29

Indiana takes the lead at the tail end of the half. We have a game in East Lansing.

    FIRST HALF

Nice response from Indiana as they trail 29-28 with 3:22 in the half.

    • IU is starting to find some rhythm on the offensive end. They’ve hit five of their last seven attempts, and Oumar Ballo leads all scorers with 10.
    • Indiana has made some nice adjustments on the defensive end as well. Still need to clean the glass up a bit better, as MSU now has seven offensive rebounds.

MSU leads 22-14 with 7:47 left in the first half.

    • IU has not gotten off to a fast start, but are lucky Michigan State has also struggled. Still, the Hoosiers are one for their last eight field goal attempts and are at 26% from the field so far.
    • MSU is also dominating the glass so far. They’re outrebounding IU 17-10.

The Spartans lead 18-8 with 11:47 left in the half.

    • Spartans are on an 8-0 run, with Indiana struggling to stop MSU’s driving up to this point. They’ve gotten to the foul line early and have converted all seven attempts.
    • Indiana is really struggling on the offensive end. They’ve started the game 4-15 from the field and are 0-5 from the 3-point line.

Michigan State leads 10-4 through the first media timeout. 15:54 left in the half.

    • The one stat I thought Indiana could struggle with in their starting lineup is rebounding, and they haven’t started well. MSU leads the margin 8-4 with four offensive rebounds. Spartans have eight second-chance points off the offensive rebounds.
    • Offensively isn’t going much better either. IU is 2-7 to start.

    PREGAME NOTES

    • Gabe Cupps and Jakai Newton remain OUT for Indiana; otherwise, there will be another clean report for the Hoosiers.
    • ICYMI, Tom Izzo has the chance to pass Bob Knight for the most conference victories in Big Ten history with a win tonight against IU.
    • Woah, big changes to the starting lineup for Indiana: Leal, Goode, Galloway, Mgbako, and Ballo. That puts Rice and Reneau on the bench.
