Indiana’s emerging roster needs a rim-protecting big man, and Darian DeVries has his eyes on Texas Tech transfer Federiko Federiko.

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Indiana is involved with the transfer big man, along with Auburn, Ole Miss, Virginia, NC State, Texas A&M, USC, Utah and Wisconsin.

Federiko led Tech by shooting 74.3 percent from the field during the season and finished the year averaging 5.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

The 6-foot-11 and 215-pound big man was 12th in the Big 12 with 2.31 offensive rebounds per game, including a season-high seven offensive rebounds in the Sweet 16 win over Arkansas where he also had seven points.

Federiko had one double-double this season, going for a career-high 23 points and 12 rebounds in a non-conference win over Oral Roberts and posted three games with double-figure scoring.  He was second on the team with 27 blocked shots, including having three in wins over Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Federiko was 75-for-101 (74.3 percent) from the field for the season.  He has never been a big minutes guy, playing just 18.9 per game this season, and never more than 23.4 per game in a season.

But he’s very productive in certain areas during his career when he’s on the floor.  Federiko had the 28th-highest offensive rebounding rate in college basketball this season.  He’s been in the top-111 each of his three seasons.  He had a national top-65 block rate each of his first two seasons.

On a per-40 minutes basis for his career, Federiko has averaged 10.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks while shooting 68% from the field.

He has played three full seasons of college basketball with one season of eligibility remaining.  He now has 568 points, 514 rebounds and 128 blocked shots through 103 games played at the NCAA level.

Federiko signed with Texas Tech last year after playing the past two seasons at Pitt where he averaged 5.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

He was born in Cairo, Egypt and raised in Helsinki, Finland.
