Iowa transfer guard Josh Dix was in the first edition of our Indiana and Big Ten roster tracker as a portal prospect for new head coach Darian DeVries.  And he’s been there since.

The reason why — DeVries aggressively pursued Dix out of high school when DeVries was at Drake and Dix was playing high school basketball in Iowa.  And Dix played summer basketball on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit with anticipated IU forward Tucker DeVries.  During his recruitment Dix said Drake recruited him the longest.  So there’s a longstanding relationship.

Things appear to be progressing with IU and Dix.  On3’s Joe Tipton reported Sunday morning Dix is in the process of scheduling a visit to Indiana.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Dix has one year of eligibility remaining.  There have also been reports of visits to Kansas, Illinois and Creighton.  Dix entered the portal after Fran McCaffery was fired, and another possibility is he returns to Iowa City to play for new coach Ben McCollum.

The Iowa native is one of the best 3-point shooters in the nation.  He’s made 41.9% of his attempts from deep on 265 attempts for his career.  Still just 20, he’s improved considerably since arriving in Iowa City in 2022.

Dix started all 32 games in 2024-25 for Iowa.  He averaged 14.4 points per game while shooting 50.7% from the field overall, including 42.2% from three on 154 attempts.  Dix chipped in 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 rebounds.  He scored in double-figures in 27 of his 32 appearances as a junior. He scored at least 21 points in six games.

In 2023-24 Dix was named honorable mention All-Big Ten, along with being named the team’s Most Improved Award and co-recipient of the Best Defensive Player.  He appeared in 34 games with 20 starts and averaged 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists.  He shot 55.2 percent (117-of-212) from the floor, 42.1 percent (32-of-76) from 3-point range and 86 percent (37-of-43) from the free throw line.

He had a limited role off the bench as a freshman at Iowa in 2022-23.

Dix attended Lincoln H.S. in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
