With Indiana’s 2025-26 season now officially over, we can confirm IU basketball forward Sam Alexis owns the program’s all-time single-season field goal percentage record.

The 6-foot-9 and 240-pound forward made 68.7% (114 of 166) of his shots this season.  The IU record book requires a minimum of 100 field goals made.  He broke Thomas Bryant’s 2015-16 record of 68.3%.  Those two stand nearly six percentage points ahead of Matt Nover’s 62.8% in 1992-93.

Alexis posted nine perfect games from the field, including an 8 of 8 effort against Oregon.  That performance is tied with five other former Hoosiers for the third-best single-game performance in program history, behind De’Ron Davis (2020) and Will Sheehey (2013), who both went 9 of 9 in a game.

Sports Reference says Alexis led the Big Ten in 2-point percentage at 70.9%.  He was No. 17 nationally in that category.

This season was easily a career-best from the field for Alexis, who is now out of eligibility.  His prior best was 55% at Chattanooga in 2023-24.  He made just 46.5% at Florida a year ago.

Alexis benefitted from defenses focused on taking away his teammates beyond the 3-point arc, and switching to neutralize IU’s screens.  In the paint with space to operate, he utilized an impressive balance of skill and physicality to create high-percentage attempts.

Alexis finished the season averaging 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 21.3 minutes per contest.  The Florida native was regularly credited by his teammates and coaches as a player who brought enthusiasm and effort to the program.

“His energy just kind of spreads to other people,” guard Conor Enright said last month. “He’s been doing that every day in practice, in the weight room. It’s contagious. So him just being around has been awesome for us.”
