Indiana is involved with one of the top shooting guards in the class of 2026, Dakari Spear from the Dallas area.
He attends The Colony H.S. in The Colony, Texas. That’s the same school that produced former IU shooting guard Bracey Wright.
The 6-foot-4 Spear is a consensus national top-60 4-star in the 2026 class. Based on the national averages he’s the No. 33 overall player, and the No. 9 shooting guard. For the 2024-25 high school season he averaged 23 points and seven rebounds per game on 55% shooting from the field.
Spear’s sister Jewel is a star guard at Tennessee, and new IU assistant coach Rod Clark offered Spear a scholarship when he was an assistant at Tennessee. Clark is continuing to recruit Spear now for IU. Spear previously visited Tennessee when Clark was there. His brother Kahliel also played Division I basketball at Robert Morris University.
Spear is the prototype for the modern high major shooting guard, with length, athleticism, and three-level scoring ability. He’s a quick and shifty guard who can get to his spots on the floor.
For spring and summer basketball, Spear plays for Drive Nation on the Nike EYBL Circuit. He’s averaging 13.6 points and shooting 57% from the field this spring.
Spear has a long list of offers that IU is likely to join soon, including Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas, SMU, LSU, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Miami, Arizona State and LSU.
