IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2024 wing V.J. Edgecombe

Indiana offered one of the more impressive wings in the class of 2024 on Wednesday evening.

Junior forward V.J. Edgecombe announced an offer from IU on his Twitter page.

Edgecombe is one of the hottest names in the class of 2024.  He’s made major moves in the rankings over the last six months, debuting in most national top-50s at this point.  Edgecombe came in at No. 24 in the On3 update last week.

The 6-foot-5 Edgecombe is an elite athlete who thrives in transition and attacking the rim, he can score at all three levels, and is bought in on the defensive end.  He’d be ideal playing in Indiana’s aggressive on the ball and switching defense.

Originally from the Bahamas, Edgecombe lives in Florida and transferred to Long Island Lutheran (Glen Head, N.Y.) to play a national schedule this year.

Edgecombe was named Player of the Year in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference, playing against elite competition such as Montverde and IMG Academy.

In his first year playing in the NIBC, Edgecombe claimed the league scoring title, with 17.3 points a game.

“It’s a blessing especially against the comp and talent in this league,” he said of winning that title.  “That’s what I do to contribute to winning and that’s the main the goal.”

Edgecombe added 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.3 blocks, while shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 43 percent from three and 76.6 percent from the line in 12 NIBC contests.

For spring and summer basketball, Edgecombe will play for Southeast Elite on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit.

In addition to IU, Edgecombe holds offers from Michigan, Tennessee, Miami, Villanova, Wake Forest, Ohio State, Mississippi State, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Georgia Tech, College of Charleston, and North Texas.
