IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2024 forward Caleb Williams

Indiana continued to expand its list of targets in the 2024 class this summer when it offered Caleb Williams last week.

The 6-foot-7 Williams announced the offer on his Twitter page.

“Extremely blessed and honored to receive an offer from Indiana University!” he wrote.

Williams is from the Washington D.C. area where he attends Sidwell Friends H.S.

Playing for Team Takeover’s 16U team this spring and summer, Williams was a key part of that squad as it claimed a Peach Jam championship last weekend.

For Sidwell, Williams made the game-winning shot in the DC State Athletic Association (DCSAA) boys’ basketball title game in March, and he had 20 points and 12 rebounds in that contest.  He averaged a team-high 12.2 points per game as a sophomore.

IU assistant Kenya Hunter has the key relationships in the D.C. metro area and is leading this recruitment.

“I’m familiar with a few guys that have been to Indiana through my AAU program, Team Takeover,” Williams told ZagsBlog earlier this week.  “That includes guys like (Victor) Oladipo and now, Xavier Johnson. I know what type of program they are, how good they are and I want to learn what more they have in store. I know it’s a big time program. They play basketball at a high level and that’s something that I’m interested in.”

A left-hander, Williams is known as a shooter with a great looking shot, but he has expanded his game and has seen a wave of offers follow.  247Sports’ national analyst Dushawn London wrote this last month about Williams.

“His length, good size, frame, willingness to defend and fluidity for his size has gotten him onto the radar of various schools this month,” London wrote.

The combination of length, toughness, shooting and being able to switch on defense makes him a good fit for Mike Woodson’s program.

Williams also has offers from Virginia Tech, Villanova, Maryland, Penn State, Georgia Tech, VCU, South Florida, Ole Miss, Harvard and Penn.  He does not currently appear in the rankings.
