IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2023 in-state guard Myles Colvin

Indiana went the local route for its latest class of 2023 scholarship offer.

After watching him play on Saturday, IU offered a scholarship to Indianapolis based guard Myles Colvin.

Colvin announced the offer on his Twitter page.

This particular offer is an interesting one for Indiana.

Colvin’s father Rosevelt Colvin was a star defensive end at Purdue in the late ’90s before going on to win a couple Super Bowls with the Patriots. His sister Raven is a freshman for the Purdue volleyball team.

The Daily Hoosier caught up with Colvin briefly after the IBCA Top 100 Showcase in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon.  While he acknowledged the close Purdue connections, he said his father has encouraged him to follow his own path and he is heeding that advice.  While it certainly would not be a surprise if Colvin ultimately follows his family to West Lafayette, the offer by Indiana seems to at least indicate that the IU staff believes it is worth the effort to invest some time in his recruitment.

Indiana reached out to Colvin earlier in the week, and after watching him play on Saturday at the IBCA event, head coach Mike Woodson and assistant coach Dane Fife extended the offer.  In addition to IU, Colvin has offers from Purdue, IUPUI, Miami (Ohio) and Tulane.  Interest has also come in from Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio State and others.

Colvin attends Heritage Christian High School in Indianapolis and plays for his father’s Indy Nets AAU program.  Rosevelt Colvin attended the same Indianapolis high school as Mike Woodson — Broad Ripple — and he played basketball for the same coach, Woodson’s long-time mentor the late Bill Smith.

Colvin looks the part of a NFL player’s son.  At 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, he is a strong, physical combo guard who gets to the basket with ease.  Colvin is a good athlete, a willing defender, and he has good looking shot mechanics.
