IU basketball recruiting: Class of 2025 names to know — in-state guard Braylon Mullins

Greenfield, Ind. based class of 2025 guard Braylon Mullins is having a strong spring and summer, and the high major offers are beginning to follow.

The 6-foot-5 Mullins has received more than 10 new offers this summer, including Virginia Tech and Iowa in July.

The IU staff has watched Mullins on multiple occasions and had him in for a visit when Indiana played Little Rock last November.  The IU staff trio of Brian Walsh, Jordan Hulls and Adam Howard are all involved with the in-state product.

Purdue, Notre Dame, Butler, Cincinnati and Ohio State are some of the other high majors taking a close look.

Mullins appeared to gain more and more comfort over the course of the spring and summer playing on the Adidas 3SSB circuit for Indiana Elite.  He posted several strong scoring performances in front of a host of college coaches at the 3SSB Championships in July.  He competed on that circuit with center Malachi Moreno, a 6-foot-11 center IU has offered, and another in-state product the staff is watching, Attucks’ Dezmon Briscoe.

Mullins is a pure shooting guard, and perimeter shooting is his calling card.  He’s working to improve as a primary ball handler, including reading ball screens, attacking off the bounce and finishing at the rim through contact.  His father Josh played college basketball at Lincoln Trail, and then IUPUI from 2001 to 2003 where he was a prolific shooter as well.

As a sophomore at Greenfield Central H.S., Mullins averaged 16.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game. He shot 58 percent from the field, including 47 percent from three.  He converted at a 77 percent clip from the free throw line.  He’ll play more of a point guard role as a junior.

Mullins has not yet appeared in the national rankings, but that seems likely to change given the caliber of offers he has rolling in.
