IU basketball recruiting: Class of 2022 names to know — guard Adou Thiero

IU is still taking a look at guards in the class of 2022.

Senior guard Adou Thiero of Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale, Penn. visited Indiana for the Wisconsin game on Tuesday.

“Had a great time, glad they invited my family and I to watch the game,” Thiero told The Daily Hoosier.

Thiero tells The Daily Hoosier he doesn’t have an offer from IU at this time, but the plan right now is for him to come back for a full official visit.  His main point of contact at IU has been with director of recruiting Brian Walsh.

Positionally Thiero says he sees himself has a point guard, but at least at the high school level he has the length and versatility to play multiple spots.

A late-bloomer on the high major radar in his class, Thiero is averaging 25.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 4.0 steals, 2.0 blocks per game as a senior at Quaker Valley.  He is shooting 53 percent overall including 31 percent from three (on 88 attempts).  He has earned more than eight free throws per game and is shooting 79 percent at the stripe for the undefeated (20-0) Quaker Valley squad.

Thiero saw significant playing time as a freshman at only 5-foot-10.  He has shot up to 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds, with most of that growth coming in the last year.  His parents are 6-foot-9 and 6-foot-4.  His father Al Thiero was a top recruit coming out of high school and attended the University of Memphis, where he played center for a team that was ranked No. 1 in the country and was coached by John Calipari.  His mother, Mariam Sy, was selected in the 2006 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics out of Oklahoma City University.

Andrew Slater of Pro Insight is reporting Thiero has interest from Memphis and Cincinnati recently in addition to IU.  He reports offers from UC Santa Barbara and Long Island on his Instagram page.

A highlight of Thiero from his HUDL page is below.
