Class of 2026 point guard Tay Kinney continues to narrow towards what is becoming a more manageable and realistic group of college finalists.
The Kentucky-based guard announced a final-eight on Thursday that includes Indiana, along with Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Oregon, and Texas.
The 6-foot-2 Kinney, who attends Overtime Elite in Atlanta, has visited or has a visit scheduled to all of his finalists. He’s coming to Indiana next weekend, Aug. 29-31.
Kinney is the No. 15 overall player in the 2026 class and the No. 3 point guard. He’s a 5-star at some outlets.
Indiana’s prior staff offered Kinney, but it’s the new staff, including new assistant coach Rod Clark, that is giving the Hoosiers a fighting chance in a very crowded and competitive recruitment.
“Coach Rod, who came from Tennessee, he was recruiting me at Tennessee, and that’s my guy,” Kinney told TDH at the Adidas 3SSB stop in Rock Hill, S.C. “I want to give them a chance too and see what it’s like there.”
Kinney told TDH what he’s looking for in a program.
“A great relationship with the coaching staff and a school that I can fit in,” Kinney said. “Just a team that fits my style of play. I’m going to have the ball in my hands and a great opportunity to get to the league.”
Playing for Wildcats Select this year on the Adidas 3SSB travel circuit, he averaged 18.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists while shooting 49.5% overall and 28.6% from three.
