IU basketball: Mike Woodson provides an update on Trey Galloway

Indiana should have sophomore guard Trey Galloway back in approximately three weeks according to head coach Mike Woodson.

Galloway suffered a broken left wrist on Nov. 17 when he fell to the floor hard on a play in which he was flagrantly fouled.  He had surgery a couple days later.

“He’s making great progress,” Woodson said on Monday evening on his radio show.  “He’s running with the team, and just using his off (non-injured right) hand when we’re doing offensive things.  He’s not in any contact, but when we’re doing drills and things of that nature he’s able to do that and just utilize the good (right) hand that’s not banged up.

“He’s on schedule.  I’m thinking probably here in the next three weeks he’ll probably be back in a uniform playing.  I’m not pushing him, I want him to be totally healthy when he comes back.  I think he can help our ball club when he’s healthy.  He was starting to play some minutes and do some things that we thought he could do so we’re just waiting patiently for him to get back.”

The three week timeline would mean Galloway could possibly return when Big Ten play resumes on Jan. 2 at Penn State.

Galloway suffered the injury after stealing a first half pass and meeting St. John’s Montez Mathis at the rim as he attempted to score in transition. Mathis pulled on Galloway’s arm while he was in the air, causing him to fall awkwardly.

This is at least the third time Galloway has suffered a serious wrist injury. The Culver, Ind. product had shooting hand wrist injuries during both his junior and senior seasons at Culver Academies.  This time the injury involves his non-shooting left hand.

The 6-foot-4 Galloway is averaging 3.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 13.3 minutes per contest.
