THREE KEYS TO THE GAME
1. A miserable start. Louisville started the game on a 16-0 run. Indiana finally steadied itself, but that deficit proved to be a mountain too tall against the No. 6 team in the country. IU’s first basket came with 13:28 left in the first half, when Lamar Wilkerson found Sam Alexis for an alley-oop. The Hoosiers missed their first eight shots and turned it over four times before putting any points on the board.
2. Louisville lights it up from three. The Cardinals came into the game with a reputation for placing a heavy emphasis on three-pointers. And they not only hunted the long ball against IU, they converted, making 13 of 31 (41.9%). The two shooters Indiana couldn’t lose track of — Ryan Conwell and Isaac McKneely — combined to make 8 of 16 from beyond the arc.
3. Nothing comes easy on offense. Good shots were hard to come by for Indiana, as Louisville’s length and athleticism bothered everything the Hoosiers were trying to do. IU shot just 41.3% from the field and committed 13 turnovers. And while Indiana came into the game with impressive assist numbers, the Hoosiers had just 14 assists on 26 makes from the field.
