Indiana transfer forward Nick Dorn is progressing towards a full return in the relatively near future according to head coach Darian DeVries.
“He’s getting closer and closer. We’re continuing to ramp him up a little bit,” DeVries said of Dorn on the Field of 68. “It’s going to be a little while before we get him into some of those live five-on-five situations. But he’s making progress.
“He looks great. You watch him running right now and he looks like he should be a middle linebacker somewhere. He should be playing on Saturday.”
The 6-foot-7 and 223-pound Dorn averaged 15.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 30.7 minutes per game for Elon last season. He missed the last few weeks of the 2024-25 season with an injury that has lingered into his arrival at IU.
DeVries clarified that Dorn had a foot fracture (Jones fracture) last year, and the procedure subsequently had to be redone.
Dorn did not play during Indiana’s summer trip to Puerto Rico last month. Neither did Drexel transfer guard Jason Drake, who is also still rehabbing from an injury that was described on the show as toe related.
North Florida transfer wing Jasai Miles played in Puerto Rico but has since suffered what was described as a shoulder injury.
“They (Miles and Drake) should both be back, Jasai sooner than later and Deuce (Drake) will still be a little while yet, probably another month or so before he gets back into things,” DeVries said.
Dorn, Miles and Drake all arrive in Bloomington as juniors with two years of eligibility remaining.
As a sophomore at North Florida in 2024-25, the 6-foot-6 Miles averaged 15.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 31.6 minutes per game. As a sophomore at Drexel, Drake averaged 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 26.2 minutes per game.
Indiana opens the 2025-26 season on Nov. 5 against Alabama A&M.
