The Indiana University women’s basketball team defeated Tennessee Martin on Thursday night by a score of 74-50 to advance to the second round of the National Invitational Tournament.

The Hoosiers got a glimpse of a future next season without stars Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill, as freshman phenom Jaelynn Penn led the way with a career high of 25 points.  She added 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Buss and Cahill each scored 14 points on the night.  Buss added 3 steals and Cahill led the way with 9 rebounds.  Freshman Bendu Yeaney led the Hoosiers with 4 assists.

The Hoosiers improved to 18-14 on the season with the victory.  Indiana will now face Milwaukee at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington on Sunday at 2:00 PM in the second round.

You can review the NIT bracket here.  A possible third round match-up with Purdue remains a possibility as the Boilers defeated IUPUI in the first round and will face Ball State next.
