Indiana moved to 3-0 with a 38-0 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday in Bloomington.
The full offensive snap counts from the game are below.
But first, here are some notes on the offense coming out of the contest:
Quarterback
There’s not too much to highlight here. Josh Hoover had a stretch in the game where he struggled with accuracy, but he still completed 75% of his throws, and he still doesn’t have an interception on the season.
Through three games, Hoover has completed 72.5% of his throws for 649 yards with 10 TDs and no INTs.
Through the first three games a year ago, Fernando Mendoza had completed 72.4% of his throws for 708 yards with nine TDs and no INTs.
Backup Grant Wilson remains perfect throwing on the season. He’s now 3-of-3.
Running back
Lee Beebe, Jr. forced four missed tackles vs. WKU according to PFF, to one by Turbo Richard. But Richard had 75 yards after contact to 51 for Beebe, Jr. Richard had the better overall PFF offensive grade.
Richard has been starting, but on the season Beebe, Jr. has seen 89 snaps to 64 by Richard. With 315 yards and 7.7 yards per carry, Richard leads IU on the season in both categories.
Both backs have received strong PFF grades for pass blocking this season, although Beebe, Jr. did allow a pressure on Saturday.
In the competition for the No. 3 back while Khobie Martin is out, Sean Cuono appears to be leading, with six snaps on Saturday to just one for Jayreon Campbell.
Wide Receiver
There’s still some maneuvering for the snaps at wideout.
Nick Marsh didn’t start and lost snaps in week two, but he ended up leading all receivers in snaps, targets and receptions against WKU. Marsh was also the top graded offensive player by PFF.
Davion Chandler continues to carve-out snaps at slot receiver, and he’s been productive when given opportunities.
Shazz Preston is also continuing to maintain a meaningful role.
Charlie Becker now has touchdowns on half of his receptions — 6 catches, 12 scores.
Lebron Bond was out with an injury.
Once again the receiver group had no drops, and they’ve had none all season.
Tight End
Freshman Trevor Gibbs saw his first action of the season after a fall camp injury, and what is most notable about that — his first snaps came in the first quarter, on the first drive. Gibbs also played some fullback.
This competition for lead tight end continues to be wide open.
Andrew Barker got the start again, but all three of Gibbs, Barker and Brock Schott saw 18 or more snaps. IU coach Curt Cignetti said last week if someone is to emerge as the full-time tight end, he needs to see high-level blocking. Schott had the best run blocking grade on the afternoon according to PFF.
Offensive Line
The offensive line allowed three pressures and a sack when Josh Hoover was in the game, and four and two respectively, total. PFF did not assign any sacks to pass blockers, meaning they attribute them to the quarterback.
Joe Brunner had the top overall pass blocking grade. He did not allow any pressures.
The top run blocking grade among the starting offensive line went to Carter Smith. He did allow a pressure in the passing game, along with Adedamola Ajani.
On the season, Bray Lynch has the best pass blocking grade at PFF, while Drew Evans has the top run blocking mark.
