Indiana announces Hoosier Hysteria date, new format

Indiana men’s basketball and Indiana women’s basketball announced on Friday their plans for Hoosier Hysteria 2024, which will have a different format than previous years.

The event will take place at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Friday, Oct. 18, which is IU’s homecoming weekend. Indiana football hosts Nebraska the next day.

The programs are placing a heavier emphasis on the scrimmages in Hoosier Hysteria this year than in past years.

“Our program always looks forward to Hoosier Hysteria and are eager for our fans to get a sneak peek at the 2024-25 team,” IU head women’s basketball coach Teri Moren said in IU’s press release. “It will be a great opportunity for our student-athletes to scrimmage in front of Hoosier Nation. We can’t wait to be in the atmosphere of the best fan base in college athletics on Oct. 18.”

Previously, Hoosier Hysteria began with both teams being introduced to the crowd, followed by some skill competitions featuring both men’s and women’s players, and then the men’s team would play a short scrimmage. A concert capped off the night in recent years — IU’s press release announcing the new format didn’t mention a concert, and that aspect of Hoosier Hysteria is still to be determined, per an IU spokesperson.

This year, the skill competitions are gone, and the men’s and women’s teams won’t share the court. The IU women’s team will start Hoosier Hysteria with team introductions, a message to the crowd from Moren, and then two quarters of an intrasquad scrimmage. The men’s team will do the same thing after the women’s scrimmage is done — introductions, head coach Mike Woodson addressing the crowd, and then a half-long scrimmage.

“We are excited to rollout this new format of Hoosier Hysteria,” IU head men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson said in the press release. “Getting our team in front of Hoosier Nation has always been a priority for this ballclub. The scrimmage will be the first chance for our fans to get a look at our new players and most importantly will give our guys a taste of playing competitive basketball in front of the most passionate fans in the game.”

There will also be a meet-and-greet opportunity through Hoosiers Connect at Cook Hall as part of the festivities. Fans can purchase access to that event, with a chance to meet the teams, take photos, and get autographs.
