After spending three seasons with the Michigan Wolverines, Tyler Morris transferred to Indiana in the 2025 offseason.
The 5-foot-11, 185 pound wide receiver could not pass on the opportunity to join Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers. Morris was slated to have a role in Indiana’s offense in 2025, as a major contributor out of the slot, along with being the early projected starter at punt returner.
Before he could ever take the field as a Hoosier, Morris tore his ACL during spring camp, causing him to miss the entire season, a season that ended with a national championship victory.
Now, 16 months after the injury, the former national champion (at Michigan) is ready to make an impact as a part of what should be one of the most dynamic offenses in college football.
But, more importantly for Morris, he is simply filled with gratitude to be able to go out and play the game he loves.
“I’m just so grateful to go out and play,” Morris said on Aug. 26. “I’m just really looking forward to the season.”
There are many great qualities that Morris brings to this Indiana team. He provides veteran experience and stability in a WR room that lost four players who were in NFL camps this summer: Elijah Sarratt, Omar Cooper Jr., E.J. Williams and Jonathan Brady.
In 34 career games at Michigan, the Bolingbrook, Illinois native racked up 39 receptions for 470 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned 14 punts for 126 yards, an average of nine yards per return.
That punt return experience is crucial for the Hoosiers, who lost their main punt returner last year in Brady. Morris will finally have his crack to be Indiana’s lead return man in 2026.
“It’s fun understanding that the ball’s coming to you and you get an opportunity to make a play,” Morris said Aug. 26 on punt returning.
Expect Morris to also be a contributor out of the slot position. Josh Hoover will rely on the twitchy wide receiver as a guy who can create after the catch.
Indiana opens the season on Sept. 5 with a home match for North Texas. It is worth noting that in their 2025 national championship season, the first touchdown of the year came on a punt return touchdown from Brady on Aug. 30 vs Old Dominion.
