Below is what IU basketball coach Darian DeVries said during his postgame radio interview with Don Fischer following his team’s 81-75 loss at USC on Tuesday evening in Los Angeles.

On the disappointing loss
“I just didn’t think we had quite the same, juice and energy to start the game and we just never could kind of get in a synch, every time we kind of crawled back in it, we just couldn’t get enough stops to sustain anything. And we had some really good looks, I thought throughout the night, just didn’t make them, you know, and that was tough.
“I thought, you know, guys that prepared well these last couple of days, I know the UCLA game, the double overtime, you know, we had some guys log, some heavy minutes, but, you know, they were ready. I thought we were ready to go, and we just looked at half a step slow the whole night, I thought they continued to battle, right up to the end and gave ourselves a chance to maybe sneak away with one here, and of course, came up short.”
On the free throw disparity
“There was a lot of free throws tonight. You know, they shot too many. So that’s, something we got to do a better job of keeping them off the free throw line. We’ll look at the film, see how we can be better and keep them off the line and then look at the film and see how we can get to the free throw line a little bit more. And we got to be able to fix that problem. That can’t be that big a disparity, because you’re gonna lose games if that’s the free throw count.”
On the rebounding margin
“That’s the main thing we talked about at halftime. They had eight offensive rebounds at halftime. We did a better job in the second half, but partly that was because they didn’t miss as much in the second half. We weren’t as tenacious as we had been. We held them to 37% of the first half, but if we had cleaned up some of the offensive rebounding issues we would have been tied or ahead at half time. But the second half, Arenas got going there for a little stretch, and we just gave up too many easy ones and they just shot too many free throws on top of it.
