Indiana got a jolt of stability when Curt Cignetti signed a new 8-year deal this week, and said he plans to retire at the school.
Meanwhile, one of the schools widely rumored to have been pursuing Cignetti continues to spiral.
Penn State fired James Franklin last weekend, and their once promising recruiting class of 2026 is crumbling.
One of the top players in that Nittany Lions class — 6-foot and 185-pound safety Matt Sieg — is visiting Bloomington this weekend.
According to national 247Sports recruiting analyst Tom Loy, Sieg will visit IU’s sold out game vs. Michigan State this weekend, following by visits to Pitt and Notre Dame.
Sieg is from suburban Pittsburgh (Fort Cherry H.S., Mcdonald, Pa.), same as IU coach Curt Cignetti. But he could certainly also choose to remain with the home state Nittany Lions once they have their house in order.
Based on the average of the national recruiting sites, Sieg is a 4-star in the 2026 class, the No. 187 overall player, and the No. 19 safety.
In addition to Penn State, Sieg had offers from Alabama, Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC, Wisconsin and many others.
Indiana’s 2026 class is ranked No. 27 nationally at 247Sports. They haven’t had a commit in a couple months and have seemingly been done building the group, save for the kind of last minute reshuffling that occurs with coaching changes and changes of heart.
IU currently has two safety commits in the 2026 class — 3-star Jamar Owens, and 3-star Laron Dues.
