Move over Hoosier Hysteria, Indiana has announced a new approach to get basketball season underway in Bloomington. Indiana men’s and women’s basketball will kickoff the 2025-26 season with a new interactive fan event, Hoosier Hoops on Kirkwood, on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 8-10 p.m. ET, the programs announced in a release. Among the event’s attractions will be player introductions, skills competitions, and meet-and-greet opportunities. Could this be the year IU men’s soccer claims national title No. 9? There’s a long way to go before we get to the College Cup in December, but this year’s squad appears to be a legitimate contender. Watch as Indiana’s Roman Hemby and Elijah Sarratt met with the media ahead of their week three game against Indiana State. Through two games, Hemby has rushed 32 times for 175 yards (5.5 ypc) and caught two passes for 34 yards.  Sarratt has caught 12 passes for 141 yards (11.8 ypc), and he has three scores. Many longtime fans of IU Athletics believe they see common traits in legendary basketball coach Bob Knight and current football coach Curt Cignetti. There may be good reasons for that. Indiana Director of Athletics Scott Dolson bridges Knight and Cignetti in a unique way.  He was a basketball manager under Knight in the late 80s including part of the program’s last national title in 1987, and Dolson of course hired Cignetti in 2023. With a history replete with greatness, it is difficult for IU men’s soccer to accomplish a best anything these days. But No. 3-ranked Indiana (5-0-1) made it five consecutive victories and six games unbeaten, defeating Notre Dame (1-1-2) 1-0 in its first road contest Sunday evening in South Bend. For the second straight match a goal from junior forward Collins Oduro made the difference as Indiana claimed the clean sheet in a third consecutive match. Former IU basketball star center Cody Zeller was inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame over the weekend. The 7-footer had two highly productive seasons in Bloomington from 2011-13, and the Hoosiers were 56-16 during his two years in an IU uniform. During his debut season in 2011-12, Zeller earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors after leading IU in scoring (15.6) and rebounding (6.6) and helping IU to a 27-9 record.
