Indiana football’s defensive back room may have lost more experience this offseason than any other position group. IU saw four veteran starters graduate and leave the program in Tiawan Mullen, Jaylin Williams, Devon Matthews, and Bryant Fitzgerald. The group still struggled last season despite that experience, with one of the worst pass defenses in the country. So Indiana’s secondary, now, will be a mix of returning faces in bigger roles and transfer adds. The exception to that is redshirt fifth-year senior Noah Pierre, who started seven games for IU last year at husky. He’ll take over the leadership role in…

Indiana football’s quarterback competition is ongoing. Head coach Tom Allen talked about his passers after IU’s 10th spring practice on Tuesday, and he said redshirt freshmen Brendan Sorsby and Tayven Jackson have both competed hard for the job. He said each has had good days and good stretches where they nudge ahead of the other, but he’s not close to calling the race. “I think it’s back and forth,” Allen said. “They’re both obviously young, both learning, they’re both making plays. It’s a process you go through, without question. Not really ready to say who’s in the lead at this…
Note: We combined linebackers with outside linebackers for this piece. In terms of who’s coming and who’s going, Indiana’s linebackers are one of the more interesting position groups on the team. There aren’t a particularly high number of guys leaving. But the four who are leaving were all major pieces of IU’s defense in 2022. Cam Jones was the centerpiece of the defense when he was healthy, a true leader in the middle, but he’s out of eligibility. Lance Bryant tied for the team lead in sacks and finished second in tackles for loss, and he’s also out of eligibility.…
No position group on Indiana football’s roster may have seen more notable turnover this offseason than defensive line. With James Head Jr., Demarcus Elliott, JH Tevis, Sio Nofoagatoto’a and Beau Robbins all gone, IU lost its five primary linemen. So new faces will step into those spots this year. Of Indiana’s nine returning defensive linemen, only four recorded a tackle in 2022. The Hoosiers clearly set out to address this position group in the transfer portal by bringing in three players in senior Philip Blidi, redshirt sophomore Marcus Burris, and fifth-year senior Andre Carter. Carter was a second-team All-MAC selection…
Dane Fife remembers the countless nights spent with Dusty May in the basement of Assembly Hall. May served as a student manager for Indiana men’s basketball from 1996 through 2000, overlapping with Fife during the first two years of his accomplished IU career. But their relationship really took off when Fife was a grad assistant at IU and May was an administrative assistant under Mike Davis. May, technically, was Fife’s boss. And he gave him responsibility, naming him video coordinator. They plugged away working relentlessly in that cramped space in the legendary arena, and Fife admired May’s work ethic, character, and…
Indiana women’s basketball junior forward Kiandra Browne has entered the transfer portal, according to her Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/CqYAdMyuqeH/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Browne is the second Hoosier to enter the portal in the last two days, joining Mona Zaric. The Montreal native started eight games for IU in 2021-22 when Mackenzie Holmes was out with a knee injury. Indiana went 6-2 in that stretch. That season was Browne’s best in Bloomington, as she averaged 2.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 58.9 percent from the field. Browne’s career was plagued by injuries. She battled through hip problems as a sophomore, and while she…
Indiana football’s spring camp is in full swing now. The Hoosiers held their seventh practice of the spring on Tuesday, as they continue working towards their Spring Fan Event in mid-April — and, of course, working to improve for the fall. Redshirt senior offensive lineman Mike Katic, sophomore running back Jaylin Lucas, and fifth-year senior Josh Henderson met with the media afterward on Tuesday to talk about Indiana’s offense. Here’s some key points from those interviews. Offensive line adjusting to coaching change Bob Bostad took over as Indiana’s offensive line coach and run game coordinator in the offseason, so this…
Indiana women’s basketball sophomore forward Mona Zaric has entered the transfer portal, a program spokesperson confirmed to The Daily Hoosier. WBBblog.com was first to report. Zaric, a Serbia native, saw limited action in her two seasons in Bloomington. She played in 14 games this season, after appearing in 10 as a freshman. She averaged 3.5 minutes per game in her IU career. Zaric scored 14 total points this season, with seven of them coming against Morehead State in December. This opens a third scholarship slot for the Hoosiers in 2023-24. https://twitter.com/SethTow/status/1640843172145246210
Offensive line has been a weak spot for Indiana for a few years. The issues reached a boiling point during the season last fall, when Tom Allen fired offensive line coach Darren Hiller. The group showed a little improvement after Rod Carey took over, but still had a long way to go. But with many key pieces returning, and a new, experienced position coach leading the way, IU’s offensive line could turn into a much stronger unit next season. Allen hired Wisconsin offensive line coach Bob Bostad to be IU’s O-line coach and run game coordinator. He coaches several iterations…
Mackenzie Holmes posted one of the greatest Individual seasons in Indiana women’s basketball history this year. Though IU ended its 2022-23 season in disappointment, falling short of a third consecutive Sweet 16 appearance, Holmes was the centerpiece of the best team in program history. The Hoosiers spent the entire season in the top 15 of the AP Poll, and all but two weeks in the top 10. They ascended to a program-best No. 2 ranking, and held that for five weeks. This IU team had a lot of firepower, and plenty of veteran leaders, but Holmes led the way both…
