Indiana cornerback D’Angelo Ponds was not listed on IU’s availability report for Saturday’s top-10 matchup at Oregon. The first-team All-Big Ten defensive back did not play for the Hoosiers in their last game at Iowa on Sept. 27, but has since recovered from that injury. Head coach Curt Cignetti said on Monday that he expected Ponds to play against the Ducks. Meanwhile, freshman safety Byron Baldwin Jr. remains out for Indiana. He stood out during fall camp, but has yet to play during the regular season. No. 7 IU and No. 3 Oregon kick off at Autzen Stadium in Eugene,…
Indiana football is set for one of the biggest games of the year. The seventh-ranked Hoosiers (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) are traveling west this weekend to take on No. 3 Oregon (5-0, 2-0) at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore. This contest could go a long way towards determining College Football Playoff fates — along with Big Ten championship hopes — for both sides. An IU win would rank among the most significant in program history. Here are three key matchups that could play a part in deciding this game. Indiana pass rush vs. Oregon interior offensive line Indiana has made…
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Indiana men’s basketball’s new-look team will be tested early and often in non-conference play this season. The Hoosiers have four big challenges outside of the Big Ten this season, with two at neutral sites, one on the road, and one at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. They take on Marquette at United Center in Chicago on Sunday, Nov. 9, and they host Kansas State on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Then IU faces Louisville at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday, Dec. 6, before playing Kentucky in Lexington on Saturday, Dec. 13. Those sorts of challenges are exciting to the…
ROSEMONT, Ill. — When Teri Moren found time to reflect on her job and her program this offseason, she drew one main conclusion. IU’s head women’s basketball coach took some time off over the summer after she finished her work with USA Basketball. A few weeks to mentally reset after a long season, immediately transitioning into transfer portal madness, with national team business following. And as she unwound and rested, she realized she wanted to be more present in the day-to-day operation of her program. “It gave me an opportunity to reflect and think about things that I did want…
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Yarden Garzon sent shockwaves through the Big Ten in the spring when she entered the transfer portal and left Indiana, ultimately joining conference rival Maryland. The Ra’anana, Israel native was one of six Hoosiers to transfer away from the program in the offseason, but she was — by far — the most significant. Garzon, in her three seasons in Bloomington, set a program record with 216 made 3-pointers, and she became the 32nd IU player to eclipse 1,000 career points. She ranked among the nation’s top 3-point shooters throughout her IU career. But she’ll spend her final…
Oregon quarterback Dante Moore has put himself among the favorites for the Heisman Trophy this season. Indiana has seen a quality quarterback already, in Illinois’ Luke Altmyer, who’s thrown for just over 20 more yards per game than Moore. But Moore has a better completion percentage than Altmyer, two more touchdown passes, and much more of an impact running the ball. Additionally, Oregon’s offensive line is much stronger than Illinois’, so the Hoosiers may not be able to get as much pressure on Moore as they put on Altmyer. IU head coach Curt Cignetti knows the Ducks offense will be…
After an offseason defined by roster upheaval, Indiana women’s basketball will look a lot different for the 2025-26 season. The Hoosiers have just five players returning from last year, including Lenée Beaumont and Sydney Fenn, who both missed the entire season. They lost Chloe Moore-McNeil, Sydney Parrish, and Karoline Striplin to graduation, and then saw six players enter the transfer portal. Head coach Teri Moren didn’t anticipate all of those pieces leaving her program; she wasn’t looking to hit a reset button. But in rebuilding a very new roster around those five returnees and two incoming freshmen, she had an…
Football is a weird game with an abnormally shaped ball — but even by those standards, Indiana’s game against Iowa ended in bizarre fashion. The Hoosiers stopped Iowa on fourth down with 16 seconds left, and took over near midfield. Iowa still had three timeouts remaining, but still needed a miracle. IU went into victory formation, but ran what head coach Curt Cignetti called ‘victory delay,’ as quarterback Fernando Mendoza attempted to stand around in the backfield to kill off a few extra seconds before kneeling down. Indiana was able to run off five seconds on first down, and then…
IOWA CITY, Iowa — After a big hit near the sideline at the end of the third quarter between No. 11 Indiana football and Iowa gave way to officiating confusion, IU center Pat Coogan took over the moment. The entire Hoosiers roster convened in front of their sideline after quarterback Fernando Mendoza took a big hit from Iowa safety Xavier Nwankpa, and as head coach Curt Cignetti discussed the situation with the officials. But their attention soon shifted away from Cignetti’s argument, when Coogan emerged in the middle of the huddle giving an impassioned message to his teammates. The Notre…
