With the NBA Draft early entry withdrawal deadline in the rearview mirror, we can now finally take a legitimate look at rankings for the 2025-26 college basketball season. In recent years, Indiana has had productive offseasons that led to preseason national top-25 rankings and predictions the Hoosiers would finish at or near the top of the Big Ten.  Think the Romeo Langford hype ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, or the noise surrounding the transfer haul ahead of 2024-25 as two prime examples. When it comes to Indiana, ESPN’s Football Power Index Rankings (FPI) still seem bogged down by 2021-23 data. After an 11-2 season and run to the 2024 CFP with losses only to national title game competitors Ohio State and Notre Dame, the model seems to be excessively cautious about the Hoosiers. In the first update of FPI ahead of the 2025 season, the computer-based ranking system pegs IU as just the No. 31 team in the country. Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced the appointment of four members of the Indiana University Board of Trustees on Monday, effective immediately. Two of the appointments have connections to the sports world. In addition to reappointing former IU basketball great Quinn Buckner, who currently serves as chair, Braun also appointed sports broadcaster and IU alumna Sage Steele to the board. The National Football Foundation (NFF) announced this week the names on the 2026 Ballot under consideration for induction into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame, including 79 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 100 players and 35 coaches from the divisional ranks. Included on the ballot are two former Hoosier stars — Antwaan Randle El and Vaughn Dunbar. Both players have been on the ballot multiple times in prior years. Class of 2026 offensive tackle Kenton Mondeau announced his commitment to Indiana on Monday evening. He posted this statement with his verbal pledge: The 6-foot-7 and 315-pound Mondeau attends North High School in Eau Claire, Wisc.  He also plays basketball and throws the shot put and disc on the track and field team. According to the average of the national rankings, Mondeau is a 3-star prospect and the No. 91 overall offensive tackle in the 2026 class. While it has received less coverage than requests by Luke Goode and Anthony Leal, transfer forward Tucker DeVries also needed a medical hardship waiver to play a fifth season for Indiana in 2025-26. The Daily Hoosier has confirmed DeVries’ waiver request has been approved by the NCAA and he is eligible to play for the Hoosiers during the upcoming 2025-26 season.  He was announced by the program as signed on Monday morning.  IU listed him at 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds on their roster released Monday. Indiana released what it is referring to as an initial release of the 2025-26 roster on Monday morning. This announcement provided some insights after the program had gone radio silent on roster developments since the end of the 2024-25 season. Devin Taylor has a year of eligibility left for Indiana, but don’t count on him making a return to Bloomington next season. After one of the best careers in IU baseball history, Taylor is set to become an early-round draft choice in next month’s MLB Draft. Football was the sport of choice for most of the boys in the DeVries household growing up. All three of Darian DeVries’ brothers played on the gridiron in college. Jared DeVries was an All-American on the Iowa football team and played for the Detroit Lions for 12 seasons. Another brother, Dusty DeVries also played football at Iowa, while his youngest brother, Jay, played football at Wartburg College.
