For six straight NFL Drafts, at least one former Hoosier football star has heard his name called. There will be some anxious moments in 2020 as the program looks to keep the streak going. Sending players to the NFL is obviously something that college football teams can hang their hat on when it comes to recruiting, and IU’s recent consistency is a source of pride for the head coach. “Definitely something that we’re proud of, IU head coach Tom Allen said of the program’s streak on a video conference on Wednesday. “It involves way more people than myself. Previous coaches,…

The first sign that IU tight end Peyton Hendershot might return to the team surfaced on Wednesday. On a Zoom conference call Indiana head coach Tom Allen indicated that the North Salem, Ind. product has been involved with the team in a “modified way” recently. Of course the team is not meeting live during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, but Hendershot has been allowed to participate in various virtual position and team meetings. “We brought him back in a modified way, back with our team,” Allen said. “We continue to monitor the situation as he works through some things we don’t…
We’ve written here on several occasions that Archie Miller’s tenure at Indiana may be defined by his recruiting class of 2021. The 2021 in-state group is one of the best that Indiana has seen in a long time, and when the class arrives in Bloomington it will give Miller a roster full of players that he has brought into the program. Things could not have gotten off to a better start with the 2021 group when five-star Evansville, Ind. based point guard Khristian Lander committed in February. Miller also landed his top 2021 center target in April, and now things…
Carmel was supposed to be in rebuild mode this past season after a strong senior class led them to the 2019 Class 4A state title. But led by one of the top sophomores in the state, the Greyhounds finished the season 18-7 and claimed a sectional title before the season abruptly came to an end. Guard Peter Suder was one of the main links between the state title team and this year’s squad, and he has become a player that is garnering high major college basketball attention. As a sophomore Suder averaged 11.2 points per contest while shooting 47 percent…

When Indiana assistant coach Bruiser Flint came calling, Jordan Longino immediately found a connection to IU. Hailing from the Philadelphia suburbs, Longino already knew of Flint, who grew up, played college basketball and coached in the eastern Pennsylvania metropolis. “Everybody knows him,” Longino said of the fourth year IU assistant. Flint first made contact with the class of 2021 Longino during his junior high school season, and Indiana was already a program that the 6-foot-5 shooting guard was well aware of. “The legendary coach Bob Knight of course, and just the legacy and lineage of Indiana basketball, Longino told The…
If there is college football in 2020, at least one predictive model likes Indiana to string together consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1993-94. ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) metric projects IU to be the No. 23 team in the country, compiling an estimated 7.7 wins during the 2020 campaign. ESPN describes the FPI as “a predictive rating system designed to measure team strength and project performance going forward. The ultimate goal of FPI is not to rank teams 1 through 128; rather, it is to correctly predict games and season outcomes. The FPI was created in 2013…
As with any professional athlete, Indiana great Jared Jeffries’ first season in the NBA was memorable. Not only was Jeffries fulfilling a lifelong dream of making it to the league, he also got a behind the scenes look at Michael Jordan’s last NBA campaign. The 2002-03 NBA season was the final run for a 39 year-old Jordan, and the first for his 21 year old Washington Wizards teammate Jeffries. Jeffries spoke about playing with Jordan during that season and their continuing friendship on the Wizards Talk podcast. See also: Bob Knight knew what Jordan was capable of before most Find…
Portland Trailblazers general manager Stu Inman went to the right guy. He just didn’t listen. Inman’s trusted friend Bob Knight was spending a substantial amount of time coaching and evaluating North Carolina guard Michael Jordan in connection with the 1984 Olympics trials in Bloomington. Knight had also scouted and coached against Jordan weeks earlier in the 1984 NCAA Tournament. The 1984 NBA draft was held on June 19, just days before Knight made the final cuts to 12 players (from 16) for the U.S. Olympic squad. Ever the perfectionist, Knight saw plenty of shortcomings in Jordan’s game during the trials,…
