(Adapted from an earlier story) The Crossroads of America is the official motto of the state of Indiana.  While it wasn’t the inspiration for the state’s motto, the balance of college football power in Indiana may itself be at a crossroads. More than just a rivalry game or the battle for the Old Oaken Bucket, Saturday’s 121st edition of Indiana vs. Purdue could have repercussions that last for a decade or more. History has shown that there may not be room for two good in-state public school programs at the same time.  With Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State in…

When high school phenoms in Indiana average more than 35 points a game and captivate their home state, well, people tend to get a tad enthusiastic. For some, the expectation was that Romeo Langford would arrive on campus at Indiana and be faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.  I don’t know about tall buildings, but it is pretty exhilarating to see what he can do with a single bound. When we profiled Langford going into the season, we warned against unrealistic expectations, saying this in the…

Perhaps a Health Report would be more appropriate.  What is happening in Bloomington right now is truly unbelievable.  The Hoosiers are now down seven scholarship players with injuries, with De’Ron Davis, Al Durham and Romeo Langford now added to that list.  After the game Archie Miller said it was unlike anything that he has seen in his career. Things have gotten so dire that Indiana needs all hands on deck just to practice 5 on 5 — and that includes three walk-ons. Nevertheless, Indiana gets their fourth win of the season on just one loss.  The Hoosiers will return to…

Well, Indiana is 4-1.  We can give thanks for that.  But that’s about it. From turnovers, to more injuries, to a game that got way too close against a not so good team — there wasn’t much to enjoy about the Hoosiers’ final contest before Thanksgiving. Give UT Arlington credit.  Despite falling behind by 20, they battled back.  Perhaps sensing that IU was coasting — or that they were understandably fatigued, the Mavericks got it all the way down to one.  But give IU credit too.  They did what they had to do to avoid a two game losing streak.…

Typically the best medicine after a tough loss is to get right back out on the floor.  That’s exactly what IU is going to do on Tuesday night after Sunday’s heartbreaker at Arkansas. Indiana returns to action against UT Arlington of the Sun Belt Conference, and the Mavericks are going to present a unique challenge for the injury plagued Hoosiers.  Coming off extensive minutes against a high pressure defense, Indiana is about to get another dose of that medicine. The primary players for UT Arlington that get meaningful minutes are all 6-foot-5 and under, and they look to play aggressive…
