In many ways Khristian Lander has gone from a prized 5-star recruit to the forgotten man at Indiana. Or young man, if you prefer. After reclassifying to move up a year and join the IU program as a 17 year old last summer, Lander encountered the bumpy road that probably should have been easy to predict for someone his age, but that was nevertheless surprising because of the accolades he brought with him from Evansville. Success is expected when it comes to Indiana men’s soccer, and the Hoosiers have not disappointed in 2021. Dayton, Ohio area point guard Gabe Cupps grew accustomed to high profile basketball a few years ago. The class of 2023 prospect was teamed up with Lebron James’ son Bronny and Stew Robinson’s son Amire on the Blue Chips travel team that played in front of large crowds before the group was even in high school.  Cupps gained national attention when he famously took on LeBron James in a 3-point shooting contest. As he ran up and down the steep stairs of Assembly Hall as a freshman, Mike Woodson likely could not have imagined that the man glaring up at him from the Branch McCracken Court far below would one day be he his strongest advocate.  And it would have been impossible to envision that this seemingly crazed coach would break down as Woodson’s promising senior season and perhaps entire playing career appeared to be coming to an end sooner than planned. Demetrius Stanton of Dead Stock Visuals was the first to report that IU had offered class of 2022 big man Vince Iwuchukwu. Class of 2022 5-star forward Jalen Washington is beginning to emerge this spring, as he starts to realize the promising potential that had been delayed by multiple serious injuries during his first two years of high school basketball. The 6-foot-9 Washington was offered by Indiana in 2019, and several others have joined in the pursuit of the Gary, Ind. product, including North Carolina and Illinois in recent weeks. Indiana basketball’s recruiting class of 2021 has risen to respectability in the national rankings thanks in large part to the rise of recent addition Tamar Bates. The Kansas City, Kan. product jumped from No. 60 to No. 26 in 247Sports’ final rankings for the incoming freshman class.  Bates remains a 4-star prospect according to the recruiting service.  His updated rating makes him the eleventh highest rated player to sign with Indiana during the recruiting service rankings era.  Previously, Bates had never been ranked inside the top-90 by 247Sports before a late surge over the last six months.
