Despite being from Indiana and playing college basketball there, the hiring of assistant coach Mike Roberts brought IU greater relationships in another hoops hotbed — North Carolina. Roberts, a Terre Haute, Ind. native, was an assistant at UNC Greensboro for eight seasons prior to joining Archie Miller’s coaching staff in 2019.  One player in the Tar Heel state that Roberts has kept in contact with since transitioning to IU is High Point, N.C. power forward Kuluel Mading. All Big Ten organized team activities will remain on hold through the month of May due to the COVID-19 pandemic according to a release by the league on Monday. While some states within the Big Ten’s geography are beginning to loosen restrictions, the conference has decided to extend its suspension of all team activities through June 1.  The suspension applies to practices, team workouts and anything else that would be conducted in an in-person group manner. Indiana’s first commit in the class of 2021 is no longer destined for Bloomington. Elkhart, Ind. top-500 3-star defensive end Rodney McGraw announced on Sunday that he flipped his commitment to Penn State. Indiana fans got good news last week when freshman forward Trayce Jackson-Davis announced his intent to return for his sophomore season at IU. The third team All-Big Ten performer played in all 32 games and averaged 29.4 minutes per contest.  Jackson-Davis contributed 13.5 points while shooting 56.6 percent from the field and added 8.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.  He led the team in all four of those categories.  Jackson-Davis shot 68.5 percent from the foul line with a team leading 168 attempts from the charity stripe. The legendary voice of IU Athletics Don Fischer joined a group of his colleagues in the college sports radio business to discuss how they got their breaks in the business and some early embarrassing moments. Fischer discussed he favorite memory at IU, how he had to lie to get his first job in sports radio, and the big mistake he repeatedly made during his first ever IU broadcast. Although the calendar still says early May, most of Indiana’s 2020-21 schedule is known. And if you are in the camp that thinks that IU should be facing a bit more challenging slate, you will no doubt be pleased with what’s in store for the 2020-21 campaign.
