They will be looking to pick things up where they left off. A trio of Indiana University football players have earned preseason All-American recognition by both Phil Steele and PFF. Wide receiver Ty Fryfogle, cornerback Tiawan Mullen and linebacker Micah McFadden each earned the distinction from both outlets.  McFadden was also named a Walter Camp preseason All-American.  All three players earned postseason All-American honors after their highly productive 2020 campaigns. In a widely expected move, Northwestern transfer forward Miller Kopp has withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft process.  Jeff Goodman of Stadium was the first to report the news on his Twitter page. Over three seasons at Northwestern, the 6-foot-7 Kopp averaged 26.4 minutes, 9.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest while shooting 36 percent from 3-point range on 339 attempts.  Kopp started 74 times in 87 games for the Wildcats. Kyle Schwarber’s topsy-turvy summer continued on Sunday with a significant career milestone. The lefty slugger became the first former Hoosier to be named a Major League Baseball All-Star since Mickey Morandini in 1995. Schwarber crushed 16 home runs during the month of June, leading the Majors and earning June National League player of the month honors.  Twelve of those homers came in a 10-game span from June 19-29, tying Albert Belle in 1995 for the most home runs in any 10-game span in MLB history. Indiana made another quality addition to its future defense on Sunday. Class of 2022 Vero Beach, Fla. cornerback James Monds III announced his verbal commitment to IU on his Instagram page. “I will be continuing my college and athletic journey at Indiana University,” Monds said during a live session as he put on an Indiana hat. Washington Nationals outfielder Kyle Schwarber produced a record shattering month of June, but the former IU slugger is facing an extended absence with a hamstring injury. On Saturday, Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters that Schwarber has a “significant” strain and is “going to miss some time.” Schwarber suffered the injury rounding first base following a single against the Dodgers on Friday night.  Shortly thereafter he was removed from the game and did not return.
