Below is the updated IU basketball roster for the 2021-22 season reflecting additions and departures since the end of the 2020-21 season and the new coaching staff. Veteran guard Rob Phinisee changed his jersey number from 10 to 1. The jersey numbers for the new players and their preliminary measurements are all shown below. Graduate managers assist the head coach and the staff in a number of ways including preparation for practice, game management, team travel responsibilities, community outreach, camps, and many more administrative duties. New Indiana basketball wing Miller Kopp published his second Vlog on Sunday evening. You can watch both the first and second episodes below and take a behind the scenes look at both Kopp and the program. Kopp transferred to IU from Northwestern where he averaged 26.4 minutes, 9.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest while shooting 36 percent from 3-point range on 339 attempts. Indiana only formally entered class of 2022 forward Malik Reneau’s recruitment in the last couple weeks when they offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-9 Miami, Fla. based power forward. One way or another, it will be a relatively short recruitment. Reneau announced on Sunday afternoon he is down to a final seven of Indiana, Florida, Memphis, Florida State, Miami, Fla., Arkansas and Seton Hall. When running back Gi’Bran Payne verbally committed on Monday he became the fourth 4-star recruit in Indiana’s class of 2022. That is significant, because according to the 247Sports Composite, IU has only landed 13 additional 4-stars in the last 22 years. 11 of Indiana’s 17 total 4-stars since 2000 have or will come to Bloomington in the classes of 2019 through 2023, signaling a major shift in the caliber of prospects signing up to play for the Hoosiers. Former Indiana swimmer Zach Apple secured his second gold medal of the Olympics on Sunday morning in Tokyo. Apple and his American teammates upset favorite Great Britain in the men’s 4×100 meter medley relay final from lane one in world record time. Swimming in the freestyle anchor position, Apple swam the fastest freestyle time in the event and extended the American lead. Apple started fast, flipping in 21.94 at the 50, and Great Britain’s Duncan Scott ultimately never got close, with Apple posting a 46.95 split. Watch below as freshman defensive back Jordan Grier met with the media for an introductory Q&A session. Hailing from Ellenwood, Georgia, Grier attended Cedar Grove High School where he played safety and returned kicks. He led Cedar Grove to three state championships. Grier recorded four pick-6s and made 56 tackles as a junior. He was classified as an athlete as a recruit, was a 3-star according to the 247Sports Composite, and ranked No. 1,213 overall nationally. Brice Sensabaugh’s fast but late rise and resulting wave of offers necessitated that some schools would not be recruiting him for long. Indiana offered Sensabaugh in late June and will continue in the process after he announced a list of top eight schools on Friday afternoon.
