The retention of assistant coach Kenya Hunter gives Indiana a strong recruiting presence in the Washington D.C. / Baltimore metropolitan area, and that has no doubt played a role in IU reaching out to one of the best shooters in the transfer portal. Six game season ending losing streaks will do it to anyone. After a Feb. 17 win over Minnesota, Indiana was 12-9 overall and 7-7 in the Big Ten.  The Hoosiers were comfortably in the NCAA Tournament at the time, and a flicker of optimism masked obvious concerns for a team that couldn’t establish momentum. Indiana All-American forward Trayce Jackson-Davis took many by surprise on Friday afternoon when he announced his decision to return to Indiana for his junior season. Jackson-Davis described to the media via Zoom in detail his meetings with new head coach Mike Woodson, what aspects of his game he needs to improve, his thoughts on his teammates who are in the transfer portal, and much more. Let the transfer portal games begin. Multiple outlets reported that Virginia Tech sophomore guard Jalen Cone has included Indiana in his final seven schools. Cone’s final seven includes Oklahoma State, Indiana, Penn State, Northern Arizona, Nebraska, Buffalo, Iowa State according to the reports. The 5-foot-10 Cone has completed two seasons in Blacksburg.  He has averaged 8.4 points in 47 career games while shooting 41.1 percent from 3-point range and 87.5 percent from the free throw line.  Cone’s numbers took a dip in 2020-21 when he made 34.9 percent from long range after making 45.7 percent on 140 attempts as a…

The Indiana football program honored linebacker Micah McFadden and quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as the Anthony Thompson Most Valuable Players at the program’s 2020 awards ceremony on Thursday evening. Quarterback Jack Tuttle earned the LEO Award, while running back Davion Ervin-Poindexter and wide receiver Christian Harris received the inaugural Chris Beaty Outstanding Walk-On Players of the Year Award.  Beaty, an IU defensive lineman from 2000-03 and Indianapolis Cathedral High School graduate, was tragically shot and killed on May 30, 2020. “It was a tremendous honor to recognize our inaugural recipients of the Chris Beaty Award this evening, Christian Harris and…
