Indiana and Marshall will meet for the first time with everything on the line. The Hoosiers will play for their ninth national championship on Monday evening in North Carolina, while the Thundering Herd arrive with a much different history. Marshall will be playing in their first ever national championship after advancing through North Carolina by way of a 1-0 decision in their College Cup semifinal match. For its part, Indiana shutout the hottest offensive team remaining in the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh in their own semifinal match. Marshall has knocked off No. 1 seed Clemson, defending…
Former USC running back Stephen Carr announced on Sunday that he is transferring to Indiana. He broke the news on his Twitter page. “I want to thank USC, Coach Helton and the entire coaching staff, the faculty and all my teammates over the years for believing in me, helping and allowing me the opportunity to live out a childhood dream of being a Trojan,” Carr wrote in a graphic attached to his post. “Playing in the Coliseum is one of the greatest things I have ever done in my life. Being able to play for and with my Trojan family,…
Every ounce of optimism for Indiana’s 2021 season comes with a drop of caution. The Hoosiers will likely start the 2021 season as a top-15 team, but will they kick-off in just three and a half months on Sept. 4 at Iowa with Michael Penix, Jr. as their starting quarterback? The message from inside the program has been consistent over the last couple months — Indiana expects Penix to be fully recovered from a second tear of his right knee’s ACL on Nov. 28 when they open the new campaign in Iowa City. “In my mind, you’re not going to…
A member of the IU basketball family is struggling with a devastating disease. Four year men’s basketball manager Andy Murphy is afflicted with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, and his family is asking for support. The expectations are high for IU football in 2021 after one of the more memorable seasons in program history. Despite a difficult schedule that includes a top-20 Cincinnati squad in the nonconference, another top-20 team in Iowa from the Big Ten West, and the usual suspects in the Big Ten East, Indiana is once again expected to be one of the league’s better teams. One of the main reasons why many believe IU will be able to maintain momentum is due to a high number of returning starters along with an influx of talented transfers. Indiana continued a run of high level commitments on Friday afternoon when class of 2022 3-star defensive end Richard Thomas committed to play for the Hoosiers. Thomas is listed as the No. 399 overall player in the 2022 class and the No. 26 strong-side defensive end according to the 247Sports Composite. He announced his decision on Friday on his Twitter page. “First off I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play the game I love and without him I wouldn’t be in this position today,” Thomas wrote in a graphic attached to his post. “I’d…
When he was hired as a defensive coordinator at tiny Temple Heights High School in Florida at age 23, becoming a head coach in the Big Ten was the furthest thing from Tom Allen’s mind. But a track record of not only success at multiple stops, but also the ability to turn around downtrodden programs ultimately made him the perfect fit for IU. Allen spoke with Kyle Decker and Calvin Blackmon on the Underdog Podcast as the trio retraced the now fifth year Indiana head coach’s path to Bloomington. Indiana and Pittsburgh will meet on Friday night with a trip to the national championship game on the line. Indiana has not suffered a loss in 11-straight matches, but in order to keep that streak alive in Cary, N.C., the Hoosiers will need to slow down an upstart Panthers squad. Pitt is coached by ACC Coach of the Year and former IU player Jay Vidovich. They will be playing in their first College Cup after running through their first three opponents in the 2020 NCAA Tournament by a cumulative score of 13-1, including a 3-0 victory over No. 8 Washington…
Updating the scholarship has become a full-time job in recent weeks. Here is the latest look at Indiana’s projected rosters over the next four seasons after today’s news that redshirt sophomore forward Jerome Hunter will not be back with the team. This latest development gives IU one opening to work with for the 2021-22 season, and it means the Hoosiers are no longer over capacity for the 2022-23 season.
