The Daily Hoosier spent the week down in The Bahamas in connection with IU basketball’s foreign tour and had several opportunities to see the team in action. Since nothing was televised and not everything was public, we are going to go player-by-player in jersey number order to share our thoughts on what we saw and what to expect from Indiana’s 2021-22 roster. Jordan Geronimo told me it was coming the day before the first game in The Bahamas. “I’m going to be a hustle player,” he said. A lot of guys say that, but Geronimo backed it up. Convincingly. No…

With several sports about to commence, the Big Ten has finally announced its policy for teams that cannot play a game due to COVID-19. The league announced on Monday morning teams that cannot play a game due to COVID-19 must forfeit the contest and such games will not be rescheduled. The rule applies to all sports for the 2021-22 athletic year and is similar to the approach being used by other major conferences. “The conference has determined that if one of its member institutions is unable to play a conference contest due to COVID-19, that contest shall be declared a…
The Daily Hoosier is previewing each position group during the final days leading up to the opening kickoff of the 2021 Indiana football season on Sept. 4 against Iowa. Today we take a look at the defensive line. While the back seven generated all of the headlines in 2020, Indiana’s defensive line was much improved. And while unheralded, the interior group was a strength of the team. Still, head coach Tom Allen wants more splash plays from his front four, and he will have plenty of new experienced faces to look to as the unit tries to keep the positive…

Since nothing was televised and not everything was public, we are going to go player-by-player in jersey number order to share our thoughts on what we saw and what to expect from Indiana’s 2021-22 roster. Miller Kopp was recruited out of the transfer portal to be a floor spacing 3-point shooter, and in 27 minutes of action in The Bahamas, he gave IU fans reason for optimism that he could be just that.…
We like ESPN staff writer Bill Connelly’s SP+ model because it is a data driven system using logical inputs — and thus unbiased. But biased Indiana fans likely won’t like what is says for the 2021 season. Connelly released his SP+ ratings recently for the coming season and Indiana comes in at No. 28 in the predictive analytical system. Connelly bases his preseason projection on three factors: 1. Returning Production. This is the measure of how much of a team’s roster is returning, weighted to account for the positions that typically make a more meaningful impact. Indiana is the No.…

Sometimes life’s inflection points come down to fairly black and white, binary decisions. In the case of Indiana offensive tackle Caleb Jones, the choice was this — his father’s ribs, or the NFL. Jones’ size has always been a topic of conversation since his arrival in Bloomington in 2017. At 6-foot-8 he has always stood out above the crowd, even in football circles where almost everyone is above average size. But Jones’ weight has been as much of the story, and for him it has been the aspect of his massive frame that has always been a challenge. He has…
The Daily Hoosier is previewing each position group during the final days leading up to the opening kickoff of the 2021 Indiana football season on Sept. 4 against Iowa. Today we take a look at the safety and husky positions. As we shift from the cornerbacks to the safety and husky positions, one thing remains a constant — experience. Indiana’s most impactful group in 2020 — the back-seven — returns almost in its entirety, and even welcomes back one of its most experienced and dynamic leaders. WHO IS GONE Unlike the cornerbacks, there is one major headline loss in this…
