The Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 announced an alliance Tuesday, with the three conferences coming together “on a collaborative approach surrounding the future evolution of college athletics and scheduling.” While there aren’t a lot of details to this point and near-term impacts are not expected, the three leagues emphasized common values and unanimous support impacting key topics affecting college athletes and schools in all sports. Tuesday’s announcement included mention of a scheduling alliance in football, women’s basketball and men’s basketball, which will go into effect “as soon as practical” based on existing contracts. The full joint release from the three…

The Daily Hoosier spent the week down in The Bahamas in connection with IU basketball’s foreign tour and had several opportunities to see the team in action. Since nothing was televised and not everything was public, we are going to go player-by-player in jersey number order to share our thoughts on what we saw and what to expect from Indiana’s 2021-22 roster. You can throw out all of that talk about Trayce Jackson-Davis playing less minutes in 2021-22. At least you could for a few days in The Bahamas. Much has been written and discussed about the junior big man…
Apparently Ty Fryfogle didn’t come back to school to study up on how to be the NFL’s next diva wide receiver. After being named the Big Ten’s receiver of the year and third team All-American in 2020, many assumed Fryfogle would ride the wave to the NFL Draft. He finished his degree in May, he was part of one of the best seasons in IU football history — what more could there be to accomplish, right? Fryfogle would have been drafted had he chosen to go that route in the spring, but there was a belief that with one more…

In a summer full of recognition, two IU defenders earned one of college football’s more prestigious preseason honors. Indiana linebacker Micah McFadden and cornerback Tiawan Mullen were both named second team preseason All-Americans by the Associated Press on Monday. Mullen became the first cornerback in program history to earn first-team All-America honors (FWAA, Phil Steele) one year ago. He was just the second cornerback (Tim Wilbur, 1980 second-teamer) in school history to achieve All-America status and was the first Hoosier since offensive lineman Dan Feeney (2015, 2016) to claim first-team recognition. Upon the conclusion of the regular season, Mullen became…

Since nothing was televised and not everything was public, we are going to go player-by-player in jersey number order to share our thoughts on what we saw and what to expect from Indiana’s 2021-22 roster. Jordan Geronimo told me it was coming the day before the first game in The Bahamas. “I’m going to be a hustle player,” he said. A lot of guys say that, but Geronimo backed it up. Convincingly. No…
