No. 15 seed Indiana has advanced to the Sweet 16 after a 2-0 win over Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon in Bloomington. Early in the second half, Ryan Wittenbrink put a crossing shot on the goal that was deflected to Victor Bezerra who whipped in the first score of the match from 10 yards away. 13 minutes later Herbert Endeley drew the entire Bowling Green defense with him to the center of the field, leaving a streaking Spencer Glass alone wide.  Endeley found the IU captain and Glass sent a laser off the far post and into the back of…

It wasn’t that Trayce Jackson-Davis was being lazy. That’s not how he sees it anyway. Playing in former head coach Archie Miller’s defensive system, if Jackson-Davis was on the help side and someone attacked the rim, he wasn’t supposed to cross the lane and try to block the shot. “In the other defense (Miller’s) I was more of an anchor and I needed to block out my guys,” Jackson-Davis said. Head coach Mike Woodson has a different view of how Jackson-Davis should be utilized as a help side defender in his more aggressive scheme.  Basically, the new IU head coach…

With Indiana up seven early in the second quarter, Donaven McCulley handed off to Davion Ervin-Poindexter on 3rd and 5 from the IU 27.  The play gained a yard, Indiana was forced to punt, and Minnesota scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive. Later in the second quarter, with the game tied at seven, McCulley ran on a read option on 3rd and 10 from the IU 25.  That play went for no yards, Indiana was forced to punt, and Minnesota scored another touchdown on that ensuing drive too. Indiana’s 7-0 early second quarter lead had turned into a 14-7…

At this point it would be insane to expect different results. For the third week in a row, Indiana’s inept, mistake-prone offense gave the Hoosiers no opportunity to salvage a win in their final home game of the season against Minnesota.  Instead IU fell to Minnesota 35-14 at a sparsely populated Memorial Stadium in Bloomington on Senior Day. IU has now been outscored 102-24 over the last three weeks, and the offense has gained 262 or less yards in each game.  Over their now seven game losing streak they’ve been outscored 238 to 81.  35 of those 81 points came…

Same as last week, same as the week before that.  The same seemingly all year. It is understandable at this point why Tom Allen seems to be exhausted with the injury questions. “Same as last week,” Allen said on Thursday when asked about the health of starting quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. and his backup Jack Tuttle.  “Guys are working through everything, and we are trying to get them ready. Don’t know for sure yet on Michael and Jack, but just working and throwing and trying to get them better. We are seeing progress, but we will have to see. We…

As speedy slot receiver D.J. Matthews laid on the turf in Bowling Green clutching his knee, it was difficult to not wonder if Indiana’s season was lying there too, also perhaps unable to recover. A year ago Ty Fryfogle earned the Big Ten’s receiver of the year due to what was effectively a run of three stellar games when he hauled in 25 catches for 560 yards against Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.  With opposing defenses overloading their attention on Whop Philyor, Fryfogle had space to operate and often his man had no help over the top.  When teams…
