Indiana dodged a bullet on Saturday. Starting quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. suffered an injury to his non-throwing hand against Cincinnati and had x-rays and an MRI after the game. On Monday head coach Tom Allen reported that Penix should be fine after the tests came back negative for fractures. “Both (tests) came back good,” Allen said.  “He should be fine physically.” Penix threw for a season high 224 yards but had three interceptions in the 38-24 loss to Cincinnati. “He made some really good throws that not many guys can make,” Allen said on Monday.  “But the mistakes were costly,…

Non-season ticket holders now have their first chance to see new head coach Mike Woodson roam the sidelines for Indiana. On Monday IU Athletics announced that six games, including a Big Ten matchup with Ohio State on January 6, will make up the 2021-22 Mini-Series Ticket package, which is now on sale. The package is available each year for games in which the student season ticket holders are home for holiday breaks. Indiana University Athletics announced the loss of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Andy Hipskind, who passed away Saturday after a long battle with cancer. Hipskind was an integral part of IU Athletics’ medical team since joining the staff in 2003 as the Director of Sports Medicine and the football team’s physician. Since 2014, he served as the Senior Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Sports Performance as well as IU Athletics’ first-ever Chief Medical Officer. According to a program spokesperson, Indiana quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. had post-game x-rays following the Hoosiers’ 38-24 loss to Cincinnati.  The fourth year quarterback from Tampa, Fla. was not available to meet with the media after the game, and no further details were provided.  Head coach Tom Allen is expected to provide an update on Penix’s status on Monday. Indiana had just held Cincinnati to a sixth straight first half drive of five plays or less.  The Hoosiers were up 14-0 in the second quarter and it could have been much more after they came up empty in the red zone twice.
