It wasn’t comfortable, but Indiana started and finished strong in Bowling Green, Ky. to claim a 33-31 victory before a record setting crowd at Houchens Industries – LT Smith Stadium. The Hoosiers jumped out to a fast 14-0 first quarter lead, but Western Kentucky’s up-tempo offense made things interesting.  The Hilltoppers amassed 458 yards of offense for the game and outscored IU 24-12 over the second and third quarters.  Indiana struggled to finish drives, settling for four Charles Campbell field goals during the middle two quarters. But with the Hoosiers clinging to a 26-24 fourth quarter lead, they marched on…

Indiana wants to put its disappointing 1-2 start in the rear view mirror, but standing in its way is a tricky test in Bowling Green, Ky. While this is a nonconference contest IU put on its schedule expecting to win, Western Kentucky is preparing for its Super Bowl, with a black-out crowd, all black uniforms and a highly anticipated game under the lights. The Hoosiers need quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. to return to his All-Big Ten form of 2020 and lead an offense that has struggled to this point. If that doesn’t happen, this one could get interesting as the…

From the start of his recruitment through the end of his lone season in Bloomington, everything about Eric Gordon’s college experience was drama-filled. Gordon had almost every top program in the country after him by the time he was a freshman in high school.  But little did most of them know, he wasn’t going to venture far from his Indianapolis home. “I knew I wasn’t going to go far.  I almost knew that I wasn’t going to go beyond 100 miles from home,” Gordon told A.J. Guyton on the House of Hoosier podcast earlier this week. Gordon quickly distilled down…

Former IU slugger Kyle Schwarber was torturing National League pitchers in June before a hamstring injury put him on the bench. When he resurfaced in August, Schwarber was with a new team and in a new league, but he brought his same hot bat with him. Traded from the Washington Nationals to the Boston Red Sox in July, Schwarber appears to be destined for a return trip to the MLB Playoffs, and his efforts at the plate are a meaningful part of a late Boston surge towards the postseason. Through 32 games with Boston, Schwarber is batting .297 with six…

After a brief run of high level play, the IU football program was back in a familiar place — shambles. The Hoosiers had gone 19-8 over a two and a half season span that included their historic run to the Rose Bowl following the 1967 campaign. Indiana truly had the look of a program on the rise under head coach John Pont.  And then, on their way to a third straight winning season, it happened.  Soon after a 16-0 shutout win in East Lansing over Michigan State on Nov. 1, 1969, 10 African-American players boycotted the remaining three games of…

After already seeing a pair of current top-10 teams in the first three weeks of the season, Indiana likely wouldn’t have asked for this if it could get a scheduling redo. A Saturday night road game at Group of Five FBS opponent is no picnic for anyone.  Oh, and then there is this Western Kentucky offense. The Hilltoppers returned zero passing yards from their 2020 offense, but few programs turned to the transfer portal like WKU.  Of the 108 players on their 2021 roster, 28 of them (26%) are incoming transfers. Of the 28, 16 are coming directly from FBS programs…

We continue our tour of IU basketball prospects on the radar in the classes of 2023 and beyond with an intriguing player in North Carolina who checks all the boxes for the modern game. Indiana is keeping a close eye on 6-foot-7 Charlotte, N.C. shooting guard/wing Wesley Tubbs III.  Assistant coach Kenya Hunter has a relationship with his high school coach and was on site to visit Tubbs and watch open gym earlier this month. As a sophomore at Northside Christian in Charlotte, N.C., Tubbs averaged in the neighborhood of 15 points and 7 rebounds per game. “6-foot-7 to 6-foot-7…
