Indiana lost to Syracuse by a final score of 112 to 110 in double overtime at the Carrier Dome on Tuesday evening. Syracuse led 49-33 at halftime, the game was tied 88 at the end of regulation, and 97 at the end of the first overtime. Indiana senior linebacker Micah McFadden earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from the league’s coaches and media, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. McFadden was recognized for the third-straight year after he collected first-team distinction in 2020 and honorable-mention laurels in 2019. Graduate transfer defensive end Ryder Anderson and senior cornerback Jaylin Williams collected honorable-mention recognition from the media. The process of narrowing the roster back down to 85 scholarship players continued on Monday after three now former IU football wide receivers placed their names in the transfer portal. Miles Marshall, Camron Buckley and Jordyn Williams are the latest to announce their intent to look elsewhere for playing time in the 2022 season. It wasn’t why they recruited Xavier Johnson out of the transfer portal, but Indiana knew that he’d add value against whoever they drew in the Big Ten / ACC Challenge this year. Playing on one of, if not the best team in Georgia, Jakai Newton and the Newton Rams are off to a 4-0 start to the 2021-22 campaign.  They are ranked No. 1 in the state’s class 7A. Here are a few quick notes on Newton from his first few contests. For far too many times to count at this point, Trayce Jackson-Davis has been asked about the development of his perimeter shot. Each time he politely answered that he has been working on it, but first and foremost, he planned to take what the defense gave him. Indiana faced a good challenge on Saturday evening in Bloomington. Marshall went on a 17-0 run to take a 34-22 lead with 6:00 to go in the first half, but Indiana showed something with a quick and sustained response.  IU went on a 13-2 run over 2:50 in the first half, and outscored the Thundering Herd 68-45 the rest of the way after falling in that 12-point first half hole. No time was wasted when it came to fixing what had become a clearly broken offense. Indiana head football coach Tom Allen announced on Sunday morning that Nick Sheridan will no longer serve as the program’s offensive coordinator. “I want to thank Nick for his work and commitment to our football program,” Allen said. “He is a good football coach and a man of tremendous character, but we are in the need of a reset on the offensive side of the ball.
