Indiana goes into the final week before Selection Sunday in an uncomfortable spot — it needs to win its way back into the NCAA Tournament picture. Selection Sunday is this weekend following the Big Ten Tournament, so let’s take one final look to see where the Hoosiers stand in the eyes of the bracketologists. Our favorite resource for bracket predictions is bracketmatrix.com, an aggregation site that compiles dozens of prognostications and produces an average. Currently at Bracket Matrix, Indiana is one of the first four out of the Big Dance. After two losses last week (vs. Rutgers, at Purdue), Indiana dropped…

Indiana will get a chance to avenge one of its worst losses of the season on Thursday. The Hoosiers have drawn Michigan in the 8/9 game of the Big Ten Tournament. That contest tips at 11:30 a.m. Eastern on Thursday morning at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and will be televised by the Big Ten Network. The Wolverines (17-13, 11-9) delivered IU’s worst loss of the season by margin when they beat the Hoosiers 80-62 on Jan. 23 in Bloomington. IU had no answers for Michigan big man Hunter Dickinson, who scored 25 points, including 18 in the second half. The…
Indiana lost to Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament championship game by a final score of 74-67 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Hoosiers were led by Grace Berger with 20 points. Nicole Cardano-Hillary added 19 for the Hoosiers. IU made just 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from behind the 3-point line for the game and 37.7 percent overall as their offense struggled to establish momentum for most of the game. The exception came when the Hoosiers jumped out to a 40-35 lead as a result of a 12-0 run that spanned the end of the first half and start of the…
It is redemption Sunday in Indianapolis. IU women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren was less than pleased with the way the Big Ten plugged make-up games into her team’s schedule in late February. One of the results was two games against Iowa in three days. Indiana lost both contests, and that cost them the Big Ten regular season title. Now the Hoosiers get Iowa for a third time in two weeks, and this time the Big Ten Tournament title is on the line, possibly even a No. 1 seed, and at least a No. 2 or 3 in the NCAA…
It’s going to take a Big Ten Tournament run now. Indiana competed at a high level against a very good Purdue team in a very difficult environment. But it wasn’t enough. Purdue dominated at the beginning and the end, running out to a 13 point first half lead and putting together a 17-9 run in the final six minutes. That was enough for the win and overshadowed a 36-19 run by the Hoosiers from 2:44 mark of the first half to the 6:52 mark of the second. IU had 9-0 and 11-0 runs in that stretch. Let’s take a deeper…

No. 5 seed Indiana took down its second straight lower-seeded foe on Saturday when the Hoosiers knocked off No. 1 Ohio State 70-62 at the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. The Hoosiers put five in double-figures led by Nicole Cardano-Hillary’s 16 points. She added 11 rebounds and five assists. Ali Patberg added 15 points and made 3-of-7 from beyond the 3-point arc. Indiana never trailed in the game despite dealing with the absence of starting forward Aleksa Gulbe, who had an illness but was able to eventually play 14 minutes, including 11 in the second half. With Gulbe limited, IU had…
