The last time Dexter Williams played a game at Memorial Stadium, he left the field on a cart and went to the hospital. Two former IU football players are in the headlines as the 2025 NFL season gets set to kickoff Thursday evening. Marcelino McCrary-Ball, who played the husky position for Tom Allen at IU and is a linebacker in the NFL, has been named a special teams captain of the New York Jets. McCrary-Ball entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent.  He initially signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, was signed to the Jets’ practice squad in August 2023, and spent time on the active roster in 2023 and ’24. Indiana is no longer in the mix for class of 2026 5-star guard Deron Rippey, Jr. according to multiple Thursday national reports. Rippey had set an October official visit to IU and included the Hoosiers in his list of final schools.  He also eliminated Kansas from the list of schools he’s considering. While consistently good for decades, recent vintage IU men’s soccer has taken a minute to get rolling the last few seasons. Not in 2025. On Wednesday No. 3-ranked Indiana (4-0-1) earned its second-straight clean sheet, fourth consecutive victory and remains unbeaten in five matches this season thanks to a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 15-ranked, previously undefeated Saint Louis (2-1-1) on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Indiana fell two spots to No. 21 in the updated Coaches Poll following their 27-14 win over Old Dominion in week one. Florida State and Iowa State were the two team that passed the Hoosiers in the rankings. Despite the drop, this marks the first time since 1969 IU has been ranked for the first two weeks of the season. The son of one new IU basketball coach Darian DeVries’ former colleagues at Creighton has joined the IU basketball program. Indiana lists 6-foot guard Tryce Grensing on the roster.  He’ll wear No. 18. Grensing is from Murfreesboro, Tenn. A four-year varsity starter at Providence Christian Academy, Grensing scored 17 points to help lead the Lions to the 2025 TSSAA state championship.  He averaged 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game during his senior season and shot 47% from 3-point range.
