As we previously reported, the Hoosiers are recruiting 6-foot-8 power forward Malik Reneau, a Montverde teammate of 5-star class of 2022 IU point guard signee Jalen Hood-Schifino. Indiana still doesn’t know for sure the extent of their frontcourt needs next season, but they quickly made contact with one of the top available big men in the transfer portal. Morehead State’s Johni Broome placed his name in the portal Monday, and Indiana was one of several high major programs to waste no time showing their interest in the 6-foot-10, 235 pounder. Indiana is in the final five for one of the best players in the class of 2023. Baltimore native Kwame (K.J.) Evans, Jr. announced on his Instagram page a final five of Indiana, Kentucky, Oregon, Auburn and UCLA on Monday afternoon. His announcement eliminates more than a dozen high majors from contention including Florida, Georgetown, Illinois, Kansas State, LSU, Memphis, Ohio State and Tennessee. No position has seen more change on the defensive side for IU football than the linebacker position. IU guard Xavier Johnson was arrested early Sunday morning on charges of resisting law enforcement and reckless driving. Johnson was released from the Monroe County Jail at 10:32 a.m. on Sunday. A spokesperson for the IU men’s basketball program released a statement on Johnson’s arrest on Sunday morning. “IU Athletics and the men’s basketball program are aware of the charges involving Xavier Johnson. Thad Matta’s stint in Bloomington was short-lived. After spending the 2021-22 season as the Associate Athletic Director for Basketball Administration at Indiana working under AD Scott Dolson, Matta was named Sunday as the new head coach at Butler. The new position will mark a return trip to Butler for Matta. The Indianapolis school is both his alma mater, and he coached there during the 2000-01 season. In his 17 years as a college head coach, which includes stints at Butler, Ohio State and Xavier, Matta possesses a record of 439-154 (.740). Matta’s teams won 20 or more games in 16…
