Indiana has a defensive commit in the 2023 class after highly-rated Florida-based safety Amare Ferrell pledged to the Hoosiers. The Columbia H.S. (Lake City, Fla.) product announced the news on his Twitter page on Sunday evening after taking an official visit to IU last weekend. Ferrell is ranked No. 437 overall in the 2023 class, and the No. 40 safety according to the 247Sports Composite.  He is a 3-star prospect according to that service, and a 4-star at Rivals. Watch as two of the state’s top high school big men went head-to-head at the Charlie Hughes Shootout in Carmel, Ind. on Saturday evening. IU basketball target Xavier Booker (Cathedral) and Indiana Elite/Kokomo’s Flory Bidunga faced off at the main gym at Carmel High School. Class of 2024 Bidunga, who has multiple Division One offers, scored 27 points and added 10 rebounds.  Booker, a top-10 player nationally, had 17 points and 9 rebounds. Indiana continues to emphasize Georgia as fertile ground for recruiting prospects. The latest player from the Peach State to receive an IU offer is 6-foot-7 wing Derrion Reid.  He announced an offer from Indiana on his Twitter page on Saturday evening. Watch as IU women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren is interviewed by her former player Nicole Cardano-Hillary to discuss what Title IX has meant for her life as a player and a coach. Moren was named a 1987 Indiana All-Star from Seymour H.S. after averaging 18.4 points per game her senior season. Indiana offered Michigan based class of 2025 guard Trey McKenney on Friday. The Flint, Mich. product announced the offer on his Twitter page. The combo guard attends Orchard Lake St. Mary’s H.S. and plays AAU with Meanstreets on the Nike EYBL.  There aren’t a lot of rankings just yet for the class of 2025, but ESPN puts him at No. 19 nationally. McKenney was named to the 2022 MaxPreps Freshman All-America second team, and he averaged 16.5 points and 6.3 rebounds this past season as a freshman in high school. Indiana University Athletics has announced that a major renovation of the women’s basketball’s team center in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall is well underway. The updates include a “much-needed renovation,” of the game day locker room, located in the northwest corner of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, which IU says is critical in keeping the Hoosiers at the top of the Big Ten standings. “The successful completion of this project will assist with our recruiting efforts while also providing our student-athletes with a gameday space that is in line with other Top 25 caliber programs,” IU women’s basketball said in a release.…

One of the top high school defensive linemen in the country put Indiana in his top four schools on Friday. Class of 2023 4-star Wilky Denaud says he is currently focused on Indiana, Auburn, Florida State and Tennessee. The Fort Pierce (Fla.) Indiana will host national runner-up North Carolina as part of the 2022 Big Ten / ACC Challenge, the school confirmed on Friday morning. IU will now face both participants from April’s national championship game during their non conference schedule.  The Hoosiers will face defending national champion Kansas, along with Arizona in Las Vegas, and a team from the Big East as part of the Gavitt Games.
