The tall task of ending a long losing streak to Rutgers might have become a bit more manageable for Indiana. Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell said on a Sunday evening television appearance starting forward Mawot Mag will be “out for a bit” after suffering a leg injury on Saturday against Michigan State.  Mag left that game and did not return. When Mason Gillis delivered a hard foul on Indiana’s Malik Reneau on Saturday afternoon, Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis rushed to confront the Purdue forward, chest to chest. Players from both teams immediately entered the scrum, and for a moment it seemed anything could happen as emotions began to boil over. For the eighth time in program history, Indiana took down No. 1.  That the top team was in-state rival Purdue made this one that much sweeter.  But it didn’t come easy. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana defeated No. 1 Purdue on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 79-74 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.  It was IU’s fourth win over No. 1 in the building. The Hoosiers led 50-35 at halftime and were led in the game by Trayce Jackson-Davis with 25 points.  Jalen Hood-Schifino added 16 points. Indiana (16-7, 7-5) will host Rutgers on Tuesday evening. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana is getting closer to full strength. Forward Jordan Geronimo is in uniform and appears ready to play against Purdue. Geronimo was participating fully in pre-game warm-ups at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Saturday afternoon.  He was wearing a sleeve on his left calf. The junior missed each of the last two games with a calf injury. Fischer is in his 50th season of calling IU basketball and football games. Peak Assembly Hall is expected on Saturday afternoon when No. 1 Purdue comes to Bloomington. It will be the first time the No. 1 ranked team has come to Indiana since 2017, and the first time ever a No. 1 ranked Purdue team has played at Bloomington. Mike Woodson was tempted by the dark side. The now Indiana head basketball coach has said often IU was the only place he wanted to go play college basketball, but at one point in his high school journey there was a visit up north scheduled.
