Watch below as IU basketball junior guard Anthony Leal surprised his sister on Christmas by paying off her student loans. Leal’s older sister Lauren was a college basketball player at DePauw.  He has often described her as instrumental in his development and motivation as a player. A veteran quarterback is high on the Christmas wish for the IU football coaching staff. After the departures of Connor Bazelak and Jack Tuttle, the Hoosiers lack experience at the critical position headed into the 2023 season. After another rough start, Indiana found second half answers against a determined Kennesaw State squad on Friday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. KSU ran out to a 22-15 late first half lead before IU tied it up at 27 at the break.  The teams traded early second half runs, and the Owls led 40-36 with just over 12 minutes remaining.  But IU closed the game on a 33-15 run and ended the game with their biggest lead of the night. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana defeated Kennesaw State by a final score of 69-55 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Friday evening. The game was tied 27-all at halftime.  The Hoosiers were led in the game by Tamar Bates with 19 points, and Jalen Hood-Schifino added 18.  Race Thompson tied his career high with a team high 14 rebounds. Indiana’s leading scorer and rebounder will miss his second straight game. Senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis will not play against Kennesaw State on Friday evening for “precautionary reasons.” Jackson-Davis also missed Indiana’s Tuesday game against Elon.  He has been dealing with a lower back issue since a November game against Miami (Ohio).  In total this is Jackson-Davis’ third missed game of the season due to the back issue. Three members of the Indiana men’s soccer program were selected in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft on Wednesday. In the first round, redshirt senior defender Daniel Munie was picked No. 10 overall by the San Jose Earthquakes and senior forward Herbert Endeley was chosen by FC Dallas in the No. 24 slot. Indiana added a veteran pass rusher on Wednesday when they signed Western Michigan transfer defensive end Andre Carter. Carter had a big year in 2022, accumulating 70 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hurries, seven sacks and two forced fumbles. Indiana added offensive line experience on Wednesday with the signing of UMass transfer Max Longman. Longman spent the last four years at UMass, including the 2019-2021 seasons playing under then head coach Walt Bell — who is now IU’s offensive coordinator. The 6-foot-4 and 315 tackle took a redshirt season in 2019 after suffering an injury.  He started every game for the Minutemen he was available in 2020-2022 — for a total of 25 starts.  Longman was a team captain and tabbed a Phil Steele preseason All-Independent team member before the 2022 season.
