ANN ARBOR, Michigan — Indiana defeated Michigan by a final score of 62-61 at the Crisler Center on Saturday evening.  The Hoosiers have now won eight of nine games as they secured their first win in the building since 2016. Michigan led 37-33 at halftime.  The Hoosiers were led in the game by Trayce Jackson-Davis with 28 points and 11 rebounds.  Jalen Hood-Schifino added 21 points and 5 assists. Indiana starting forward Race Thompson came out for pre-game warmups in street clothes in Ann Arbor on Saturday afternoon and will not play when IU and Michigan tip just after 6 p.m. ET at the Crisler Center. Thompson missed four games earlier in the season with a knee injury.  Indiana confirmed Thompson is out for “precautionary reasons.” On his pre-game radio spot, head coach Mike Woodson indicated Thompson may be able to play next week when the Hoosiers travel to Northwestern. Just one month after he left Columbus to become the new defensive coordinator at Tulsa under Kevin Wilson, former Ohio State senior analyst and advisor Matt Guerrieri is returning to the Big Ten. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick says he never let his teams get the impression superstar quarterback Tom Brady was getting preferential treatment. Two former IU basketball stars are on the move after midseason NBA deals reported on Thursday. One-and-done Hoosier Eric Gordon is headed back to where his NBA career started with the Los Angeles Clippers, Shams Charania of the Athletic is reporting. The 2022-23 season was Gordon’s seventh with the Rockets, where he was Houston’s longest-tenured player. In seven seasons with the franchise, the former NBA Sixth Man of the Year averaged 15.7 points (36.0% on 3-pointers) and 2.3 assists in 30.4 minutes. Indiana is getting involved with a fast-rising West Coast prospect. Class of 2024 wing Marcus Adams, Jr. announced an offer from IU on his Twitter page on Wednesday evening. According to some reports, Adams could be either a 2024 or 2023 option.  He’s originally in 2023, but has been discovered late and may attend prep school next year to continue his development.  He is currently listed by most national recruiting outlets as a 2024 prospect. Ding dong, Rutgers is dead.  Okay, not really, but Indiana snapped a six-game losing streak to Rutgers on Tuesday evening in Bloomington and won their seventh game in eight tries in the process. The Hoosiers started fast, and jumped out to a 30-16 lead with 7:54 left in the first half.  But the gritty Scarlet Knights responded.  They cut the lead to 38-35 by halftime, and they were within one early in the second half.  IU never relinquished the lead, and pulled back out to a 10-point edge, only to see Rutgers come as close as 59-56 with less than…

For the second time in as many years, Rutgers point guard Paul Mulcahy made a dirty play against Indiana in Bloomington. Immediately after what appeared to be a game clinching defensive rebound by Trayce Jackson-Davis on Tuesday evening, Mulcahy tripped the All-American as he attempted to advance the ball to the IU end of the court. It happened with 30.6 seconds remaining and Indiana leading 63-56.  Mulcahy made no attempt to go for the basketball and instead attempted to subtly stick his foot out to trip Jackson-Davis.  The maneuver caused Jackson-Davis’ shoe to come off. Trayce Jackson-Davis isn’t IU’s all-time scoring leader.  And he isn’t the program’s all-time rebounding leader.  Not yet anyway on that latter category. But on Tuesday evening the 6-foot-9 senior forward became the first IU player ever to surpass both 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Jackson-Davis passed legendary IU guard Yogi Ferrell on Tuesday evening in a win over Rutgers and now stands sixth all-time at IU with 2,004 points.  He is third all-time in rebounds.
