Class of 2024 offensive lineman Mitch Verstegen went public with his verbal commitment to Indiana on Tuesday morning. Verstegen announced his commitment on his Twitter page. “Thank you Coach Allen and Coach Bostad for this amazing opportunity,” Verstegen wrote in a graphic attached to his post.  “I am extremely excited to be an Indiana Hoosier.” A Kaukauna, Wis. product, Verstegen was offered by IU on a visit to Bloomington a couple weeks ago during the program’s Spring Football Saturday event.  He projects as an interior offensive lineman. A former IU 2024 target has come off the board and entered the in-state rivalry. Raleigh Burgess, a four-star power forward, has committed to Purdue. The 6-foot-11, 235-pound junior out of Cincinnati (Ohio) Sycamore chose the Boilermakers on Monday, citing the fit with the staff and proximity to home.  Burgess missed a significant portion of the 2022-23 season with a leg injury.  He has not returned to AAU action. Indiana football is no stranger to being on the wrong side of the college football record books. Last year the Hoosiers became the first program to reach 700 losses all-time. Until a few years ago they had the longest active streak without being ranked in the AP top-25. For the fourth straight year, IU Athletics can claim overall superiority over Purdue. Indiana holds a massive 11.5 to 4.5 edge over the Boilermakers in the annual Governor’s Cup competition with just four points left to be determined through the end of the 2022-23 academic year. Highlighting the win for Indiana were basketball sweeps by both the Hoosier men and women. Since 2001-02, the two schools have conducted an all-sports competition. Indiana is down to two open scholarships for the 2023-24 season, and the focus is now clearly on guards and wings from here. One player the IU staff has had their eyes on for a while and will make a run at now that he’s in the portal is former Toledo lead guard RayJ Dennis. Dennis was the unanimous MAC Player of the Year this season. Indiana’s streak of nine straight years with a player being selected in the NFL Draft came to an end in 2023.  The Hoosiers had at least one player selected every year from 2014-2022. Michigan based tight end Brody Kosin is Indiana’s first commit in the class of 2024. The Clarkston, Mich. Former Miami (Florida) forward Anthony Walker is transferring to Indiana, he announced on Saturday. Walker took an official visit to IU this week and wasted no time deciding on his next spot.  He posted a video to his Twitter page with the caption “extremely blessed… now it’s time to work Indiana.” https://twitter.com/Antgotclout/status/1652357354019495942?s=20 The 6-foot-9 and 215 pound Walker played four years at Miami and has one year of eligibility remaining with IU. A fourth non-conference high major opponent for Indiana’s 2023-24 schedule has surfaced. According to a report by Jon Rothstein, IU is planning to face Auburn in Atlanta this December. The Daily Hoosier has learned the teams do intend to play, but the final terms have not been finalized.  The game could be on Dec. 9, the same weekend IU played Arizona last season, but that has not been confirmed. The first of what will be several mid-major opponents IU basketball will face next season was announced on Friday. According to a report by Jon Rothstein, the Hoosiers will take on Harvard as part of their 2023-24 non-conference slate. Crimson head coach Tommy Amaker will lead Harvard for a 17th campaign in 2023-24.  They finished this past season with a 14-14 record and were ranked No. 158 nationally at the end of the year according to KenPom.
