Carmelo Anthony continues to deliver for Mike Woodson. And although he attended Syracuse, Anthony will quickly become a fan favorite in Bloomington if he keeps this up. Two years ago Trayce Jackson-Davis was trying to get the scoop on then new IU basketball head coach Mike Woodson. Jackson-Davis ended up connecting with Anthony in the spring of 2021 to learn more about the new Hoosiers coach before deciding to return. “I asked around, I asked last year, Carmelo Anthony, he told me he was his favorite coach he ever played for, and I can see why now,” Jackson-Davis said a…

On a day when IU basketball fans are already on edge about a major decision that will effect the 2023-24 roster, we learned a coveted backcourt talent is headed elsewhere. Penn transfer guard Jordan Dingle is headed to St. John’s according to multiple reports. Indiana’s staff had their eyes on Dingle long before he entered the portal a few weeks ago, and they made contact nearly as soon as they were permitted.  He was likely the best fit in the portal for their roster needs.  The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 23.4 points last season and was second in the country in…

UPDATE:  MGBAKO HAS COMMITTED TO INDIANA On Friday, class of 2023 5-star forward Mackenzie Mgbako will announce his college destination. Will it be Indiana or Kansas? Truth be told, no one seems to know outside of a very tight inner circle.  But there have been predictions. And it seems to come down to a more proven track record at Kansas, vs. a clearer path to significant minutes at IU. On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw has placed a prediction for Kansas. And when you read his assessment of the situation, this observation really stands out: “A look at the last two…

Class of 2024 shooting guard Jonathan Powell is a 4-star from Ohio.  Last week he said he’ll focus on six schools in his recruitment. Along with IU, Powell says he’s considering Clemson, Michigan State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Xavier. Indiana is going after a number of wing prospects in the 2024 class, so it will be interesting to see where this one goes as both sides narrow their focus. The Daily Hoosier caught up with Powell in Fort Wayne on Saturday at the Bill Hensley Run-n-Slam.  Here’s what Powell had to say over the weekend regarding where things stand…

Indiana’s season opening opponent for the 2023-24 season was revealed on Thursday morning. The Hoosiers will host Florida Gulf Coast from the ASUN Conference on Nov. 7, The Daily Hoosier can confirm. While FGCU burst onto the scene in 2013 with a high-flying run-and-gun approach under Andy Enfield, the playing style for this squad should look quite a bit different when the teams tip at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Former Penn State head coach Pat Chambers is entering his second year leading the Eagles.  Chambers built a reputation during his time at PSU for coaching tough-minded, physical and defensive oriented…

It’s difficult now to imagine IU Athletics without men’s soccer. But relatively speaking, it wasn’t all that long ago when program founder Jerry Yeagley transitioned the program from club status to varsity. In fact, it has been 50 years to the day. On May 11, 1973, the Indiana University Board of Trustees voted to establish men’s soccer, previously a club team, as a varsity sport. Following the decision, head coach Jerry Yeagley told the Indiana Daily Student that, “What seemed like an impossible dream…

Hailing from Germany, Reibe has only been in the U.S. for…
